winters coming

Stick to the details
winter is slowly coming how do you guys in the colder areas keep your car clean when its like 25 degrees out side

I have one of those coin places a few blocks from me...
But I think this year I will drive my car into the warehouse and try QEW or S&W :D

I'm just afraid that the car would be too dirty to use either of those products when the salters make it to the street :(

I happen to be lucky enough to have a shop i work at. I can work in it all winter long. Great for when the salt and sand hits the roads. :) Just don't forget to dry those locks

Coin place to remove most of the crud, drive home and finish it up with QEW. That's my plan for this winter when the temp is above freezing.

No washing or really detailing in the winter for me just rinse's at the coin op place and if I get lucky inside a heated dealership with all there supplies.

I'll spray it off at the coin op place I suppose, but fortunately, last year it got wearm enough for me to get the hose out and wash and put on a coat of sealant Thanksgiving, last week of December and again in the middle of February. I'm hoping for a few good weekends this coming winter too.

I figure with about three such weekends during the winter I can make it through ok. I'll know if I'm right when the truck and car are about 10 years old - maybe sooner!

I live in the same area as Kee so I also use the coin operated wand. Before winter hits I smother my cars in sealant. I'll be doing the same this year.

I use a lot of drive through touchles car washes with the under spray option to knock off some road salt! I will be doing that like once a week at least.

My brother just bought a new house with a nice garage where the mustang will be parked for the winter I figure a few 30 packs over the course of the winter will be payment enough...plus ill give his car a detail and his wifes...!!!

So now I am in the process of looking for the perfect beater! (if there could be such a thing) Low cost! low maintance! Safe! passes NJ inspection! thats about it

Man, you guys got it tough in the winter.
Up here in the Northwest there is no road salt.
Almost no snow.
And many weekends that you can actually wash your car outside.
You just have to wear a sweatshirt.

I'm going to use EX and not top.
I'll reapply once or twice through the winter.

4.No
5.No
6.No
7.Yes, but probably worse elsewhere.

We're either really boring up here,
or really lucky, not sure which.

I'm just glad I can wash my car. :D

1. Yes, tomorrow actually.
2. Yes
3. Recently, yes. Although small.
4. No
5. Yes
6. Yes
7. Yes, bad. Also with a threat of West Nile virus every year.

Some poeple say "You gotta love the South." I say otherwise.

So, why don't more people spend the winter in the Northwest?
Seems like a better solution to winter woes than many of the more popular places.

Rain and Gray!
That's why.
For six month's strait.

That's my story anyway,
and I'm stickin too it. :D

Back to the subject of the thread. :)
Spray wash or drive thru touchless to get the heavy crud off, then finish in the garage with Poorboy's S&W. I have also used QEW with good results, but the S&W is less messy. No water dripping on the floor.
My garage is not heated, but I have a 90,000 BTU torpedo style kerosene heater that will raise the temperature 50 dgrees in pretty short order. It is noisy and uses up the oxygen so I don't run it while I am in the garage. Fire it up, leave the passageway door propped open about 4" and let it run while I go in the house and get my stuff together. Usually takes less than 15 minutes to get things warm enough to S&W, vacuum. If I plan on a full detail, I pick a day in the 40's or 50's to start with and then heat the garage from there. Jeans, flannel shirt, sweat shirt, insulated vest have always been plenty warm. Usually get rid of the vest in pretty short order. Sometimes the sweatshirt as well.
Works for me.

I remember it snowing several inches one time in all of the winter back in 77-78 in Seattle. Of course back home in NE Ohio, my family was getting hit with a 2 day blizzard! Seattle was easy winter. And yea, there was a small earthquake when I was there also.
