Winterizing

What are the steps in protecting the car for winter? I know a sealant is going to be needed but i have no idea as to which one would give the best protection while still looking good. I have never used a sealant before so any advice or tips would be great.

Personally, I plan to use FK1000P, two layers. I was going to top it with Collinite 845 but after reading how good FK1000P is at causing dirt to just "slide off", I'm not sure I want to mess with that by topping it.

A lot of people use Collinite as their winter LSP. It's very easy to use and looks pretty good as well. Two or three layers of UPGP would also be a good choice.

You should get a good 5 months at least out of any of the above sealants.

I've done great in the winter with both Collinite and KSG (heavily layered). This winter I'll have FK1000P (six applications/?layers?) on the YukonXL and we'll see how that works out.

I quit switching my wife's A8 to Collinite and it does OK with #16, but that stuff just isn't as durable as the 476S was and I sometimes have to refresh it.

One thing I *do* always spend some time on is making sure the undercarriages are ready for all the salt/etc. I get under there and touch up the undercoating and respray vulnerable areas (esp. electrical connections and things that could rust up like spare tire mounting hardware) with the appropriate stuff.

And of course I make sure my winter wheel/tire packages are all ready to go on.
