Winterized The WRX (56k Beware)

After slaving over the wife's CRV all day yesterday, I decided to tackle my WRX today in hopes of getting it ready for the NC winter. This car was a little easier because I normally detail it every couple of weeks whereas the wife's car gets it about twice a year. Basically it didn't need any prep work. Here's the background.

A couple of weeks ago the car was polished using 1Z UPP, followed by Tropi-Care Swirl Cutter, a couple of layers of Tropi-Care polish and finally a topper of S100. Since that was just done, I decided to just lightly clay some problem areas (Lots of road work going on around here and bits of tar on some panels) so, I washed with Tropi-Care Car Wash, clayed a few panels to get the gunk off and went straight to Collinite #476s.

I said this yesterday about the wife's CRV and I'll say it here again. Collinite is a B!TCH to get off. What ended up working best for me was just laying down an MF, putting the PC on top of it and going over the whole car on about speed 4. That still won't get the spots where you put too much on by mistake but it gets the majority of it.

So, in summary of today's activity, washed, clayed, applied Collinite #476s, did the front and rear glass with Zaino Glass Polish, applied Collinite to front and rear glass and did tires and trim with Tropi-Care Tire Dressing.

On to the photos!

P.S. I think these are the best photos of the car ever!

MF bonnets are a PITA to use for complete removal of product. I set a MF towel under the PC at 4 and remove the majority, then go over the entire car with 2-3 MF bonnets to ensure complete removal.

WRX looks great!

Awesome Looking results...I want a WRX so bad...

Is it modded? (wink wink)

A little.. turbo back exhaust, up pipe, remapped ECM, cold air system, bigger intercooler. Nothing real special.

Nice work man. You will enjoy NC winters if it snows. Everything shuts down like no tomorrow. Then you can go out and play with you car, not products hehe.

looks good. Im planning on finishing winterizing my car once the mudflaps arrive. I used #16 this year, to give it a try see how good it really is.

Im actually from NC so winters here are nothing new to me. I moved out of NC back in 93, lived in Florida for 5 years, moved to Dallas, TX and lived there for 6 years and now I'm back in NC.

Living in the warm climates I've been in for 11 years is sure to suck when it's single digits outside but I endured it for 27 years or so before, I think I'll be okay, just hating it :)

Which ECU management did you end up going with? I'm currently running Cobb's AccessPort with a bigger turbo (VF34), STi pinks, turbo-back exhaust, up-pipe, and intercooler hoses.

Cold fall mornings + turbo = :shocked :D :xyxthumbs

AccessECU.. I had a Utec for a while but it's an overpriced piece of junk really.

I've done pretty well leaving the WRX alone. It's by far the slowest car I've owned in 15 years but it's reliable so I keep telling myself reliablity is more important than speed.
