Winter time Blues

I wanted to post this to see what the other mobile guys do in the winter. This is my first year as a full time detailer and the season will soon be changing. The rain will really hurt my weekly service that I have established with several business complexes. I was curious as to how the others out there get thru the winter? I am sure I can pick up an interior detail or two and I am sure it is not going to rain every day. Just looking for some ideas.

Hoping to have a mild winter, so I can detail throught the winter. I am also a nationally certified massage therapist - that is what I do if I can't detail.
 
I'm in a climate where detailing in the winter just isn't practical. I fold up shop at the end of October and don't open again till March or April. I usually don't get busy again till May. That is the #1 reason I am not doing this full time. I gotta pay the bills for the 6 months out of the year that I won't see any business.
 
I'm not mobile, but I'm not stupid either. PEI winters are hard. I've taken (hopefully) a part-time job teaching Jan-Apr. I can prepare my lessons at the shop and deal with customers if they come. If car lots are busy, I'll have some business. I might help out at a furniture store for Christmastime.
I imagine I'll get some hand wash people in winter though, but it is our first year in the shop and I'm not holding my breath.
 
Keep going thats the idea no polishing jobs though unless I do them at home.
Im going to leaflet drop for patio and driveway cleaning just picked up a monthly plant customer 8 vehicles dirty work though as long as your earning thats the most important thing just do what you can what else is there?

One idea is to partner with a local car wash, auto glass shop, etc., to do your detailing work beyond washing. It means being insured to transport customer vehicles, or having them drop off, but you could pull your van off the road.
 
We don't have terrible winters but I know I'll miss work some days during the winter. Years ago I missed a week straight 4 times (Nov, Dec, Jan, Feb). This year I'm better prepared and have been socking money away each day. This way when I have a day or days that I can't work (or work a shorter day), I can pull money out of the stash. Being off a day is great when you have some money. The year I missed 4 weeks it was horrible. I was broke and the time off was just depressing. I don't pay attention to winter until November 1st. Once that day arrives, I start counting down the days till March 1st. Every day of work is greatly appreciated during the winter months.
 
I can appreciate your delema gentlemen. I hope you have a short winter this year . I would hate to think of some of you closing shop . It sounds like some of you are getting creative and venturing out . Thats what this forum is about , helping eachother out..

Is there anybody who hooks a plow up to their truck (those that use a truck as their detail rig)? It seems like it would be the perfect compliment to mobile detailing as it would mean working only when you can't detail anyway.
