Winter prep on the Formula.

You know, since it snowed last week, I figured it might be time to get around to preparing for winter. Heh. I didn't feel like breaking out the PC since it wasn't necessary for the job.

AIO by hand.

Zaino Z2 x 2 by hand.

No need for clay or a polish, both were done recently enough. I still really don't like the way Zaino looks, but I've yet to find something that really outlasts it, especially in our fairly harsh winters on top of the hard water we have here. Can't be too picky when there's snow, sand, and salt to deal with. Pics...

Why not try some Meguiars #16 over Zaino and see if that look makes you happier. #16 is pretty durable in its own right, should be a pretty good sacrificial layer.

Not a bad idea. I've just been trying to restrain from buying some newer stuff until I get rid of what I've got lying around, that's why I'm using Zaino instead of picking up some #16, Collinite, SG, etc.

On another note, doesn't topping with a paste hurt the durability of the sealant underneath?

Car looks nice. Should be some really great protection.

*I* don't think that topping a sealant like Zaino will hurt the durability, but I could be wrong.

On a side note, how do you like those tires. I've had them for about 2k miles and LOVE them, especially with the all the rain we have been getting lately.

Car looks great! Like a black mirror!

Topping with a paste wax will not hurt the sealants durability, but rather add depth, wetness, and a warm carnauba glow.

The combo I've always done in the winter with my truck has been #20 topped with either #16 or the *gasp* maroon bottle step 3 wax. Works marvelously. :up I don't particularly tend to care about looks during the winter, as long as it makes it through to spring, then I can re-detail it to look nice through the summer/fall.

BTW, is that car a problem to drive in snow/winter conditions? I've been thinking of buying a Z28 but since I can only afford to have one vehicle, I :nixweiss if it'll do in winter. I suppose I could buy a beater pickup truck if I had to :o

I do not recommend Camaros or Tran Ams/Formulas for winter driving. It can be managed, but it isn't fun.

They are great the rest of the year, though.

looks like somebody was doing a little misbehaving :p

Z16 Tire Gloss.... I LOVE that stuff! Only real problem I see with it, as soon as the tires get wet the gloss quickly goes away and it appears that nothing is left on the tire.

I did the tires with Stoner's More Shine Less Time, not Z16.

As for what I think of the GS-D3s, very nice. They act a little iffy on certain road surfaces, and they aren't quite as good as BFG KDWS in the rain, but they grab a lot better, handle better, and are quieter, so I'm going to stick with them.

As far as driving in the winter...not fun, but passable. I'm going to take off the C5s in favor of the stock 16s soon which have all season tires on them. That'll make it a bit easier. Every winter I'm cursing myself for not buying a 4x4, but in the summer, it's all worth the trouble.

And now that I think about it, I may just top with #16. That stuff lasts a long time in it's own right, and with it on top I could use a much cheaper QD spray like Final Inspection instead of Z6.
