Windshield problems.

Wondering if anyone else has had this problem or knows how to fix it. Whenever I use my wipers I get a build up of black stuff where the wipers flop over to go the other direction. On the drivers side the build up occurs on the side and bottom of the windshield. I have tried everything to fix the problem. I have used no touch glass stripper and still it comes back. I have changed wiper blades and still have the same problem. If I don't do anything for it eventually I get black streaks across the entire window.

Appreciate the help.

Are you using any type of windshield treatment (i.e RainX, wax, sealant)? Need more specifics.

I had this problem when I used RainX several years ago (~4yrs) and stopped using it because of this problem. This may have been a user caused problem because I may not have applied, allow to dry and buff off properly. :nixweiss

Presently I treat my exterior glass with Zaino (Z2/5):xyxthumbs

Try wiping your blades once a week until no more black gook comes on the rag...use alcohol.....

The stuff on the glass is rubber, bug guts, road grime, wax, etc etc...

I suggest a thourough cleaning of your windshield and then try using aquapel so you use your wipers less..

I don't use anything on my windhsield. Is it possible that the wipers push too hard on the glass?

Look at Guess-My-Name's response. It must be road grime and such. Clean blades good with alcohol frequently. Also clean windshield throughly with a good cleaner. Polish with a mild abrasive ( BarKeeper's Friend), re-clean and treat with a sealant like Aquapel, Klasse SG or Zaino.

I doubt if pressure created by your wiper tension spring is your problem.:wavey

If the spring pressure was out, the blades would either skip or slowly drag accross the glass.

I agree with the other, some sort of dirt. I would also use lighter fluid and clay to make sure the glass is 100% clean, also I have never been keen on adding any product to the glass like RainX etc.

I had this problem. It is a combination of film buildup on the glass and oxidized rubber on the wiper blades. I scrubbed and scrubbed the blades until no more black came off (these were new Bosch blades) and then scrubbed and clayed the windshield. I now also clean my windshield with EO 20/20 and no more problems.
