Will Optimum Polish be aggresive enough or do I need the compound?

I do a couple of cars on the side for some extra cash. Most of them have moderate swirling and all of them have some sort of water spotting. Would optimum polish be enough cut to remove most swirls or do I need to get the compound. The reason I would not want to get the compound is that my truck has some minor swirling(I mean very minor) and would like to use it instead of my ssr1. I would not want to use something like a compound on my truck.

OP will take out most swirls in paint...I would compare it to SSR2.5 or menzerna IP...remember thought its cutting ability depends greatly on the pad used...

I just ordered the Optimum Detailing kit from AutoGeek. For $50 I got 32oz of OCP and OCC, plus 16oz OCW, 2- mF's and a light cutting pad. Why compromise get the kit, its a great deal and youll have everything you need.
 
With a Meguiars cutting pad, I got swirls out of an Audi TT with the polish. The compound would have been faster but it isn't *that* much more aggressive. Based on the wetsand removal potential, the compound is about 20% more aggressive...and it finishes down (on all but soft paints) almost as well as the polish.
 
But wont the compound remove more clear than the polish? I want to keep the clear-removal on my truck to a minimum.

In theory it wont...just work either in till there are no swirls left...then you would be at the same level either way...the compound will just take it down faster not not really deeper...

If you are using a PC, I wouldn't worry about it. Even a rotary in the hands of a professional (Joe, aka Superior Shine) using Meguiars #83 DACP, polishing out wetsanding marks didn't show a reduction in the depth of the paint as measured by a paint thickness guage.



The compound will get you the results more quickly than the polish.
 
Optimum polish with sheepskin pad is aggressive approach. Just keep that in mind. Opt is depand on type of pad. Should not be that worry with PC.
 
I'd get the compound. Normally I would recommend the polish as it will likely take out the marring you described, but the compound will take them out faster and as Scott mentioned it finishes down almost as well as the polish.
