Will NXT & AW stack?

I ordered some Duragloss 105 & Aquawax to replace the 652/111 combo I had tried before but while I was waiting we had a few really nice days so I took advantage of that by washing & claying the truck. Rain was expected in a few days so to put a little protection on I washed again and put a coat of NXT paste on by hand.

Now that my new Duragloss stuff is in I'm wanting to see how the AW will look on the Carmine Red. Is it ok to put it on top of the NXT (anyone put these together before?) or should I get the NXT off (would the DG #652 do that?) and put the 105 down before AW?

I've topped NXT Liquid with so many LSPs and waxes. I use to use it as a sealant or base.

I often wonder why I stopped using it. I was easily getting 3 months out of a coat and over 150 uses per bottle!

You could apply the AW on top of the NXT, but honestly, I'd go ahead and remove it with the 652 PreCleaner, which will remove the NXT. Then apply the 105 and AW and I guarantee you will love the results! You'll get much more benefit using the AW with the 105 than with NXT.

Regards,

Mike

Thanks, fellas. After giving this a few minutes of thought, one important factor comes to mind -- hand application.

This is a Tahoe and I'd have to do the entire thing in 652 by hand, then 105 by hand, then AW by hand. What I think I'll do this weekend is go ahead and put a coat of AW on top of the NXT to see how it looks, then in a couple weeks (hopefully I'll have a PC by then) I'll do the entire process with DG. That way I can get a good idea, too, of how much better the AW looks with 105 versus NXT.

On equally prepped paint, I doubt you'll see much of a difference-- durability is probably the area where you'll see a difference.

Here's my car with NXT paste topped with Aquawax.

I just got my DG 105 & 601 from Autogeek, and I applied it to the car, and this spring, I'll have before and after pictures. So far, I've noticed that the metallic shows much better with the DG than the NXT which seemed to have really muted the metallic flakes. This picture really shows how muted they are.

Ceezer I think you should just go ahead and use AW regardless of what's previously sitting there. I know it's commonly believed on autopia that you can 'stack' or 'layer' products however the reality is that whatever product you used last will remove most of what's laying there currently on its own. These products are not like pieces of paper - as in laying down a coat of nxt and then thinking a coat of whatever else you use will just 'sit on top' of the nxt layer...doesn't work that way. I don't visually think you'll see any difference between nxt+aw (if you did them at once) or just aw on its own...you're just seeing and feeling what you put on last.

This has been a subject of many debates and I'll have to respectfully disagree with that as a blanket statement. I've seen a visual difference that additional layers of sealants make along with the added durability vs a section that did not have those layers.

I also doubt that a properly cured sealant such as SG or Z2/5 will be compromised that much by applying a layer of wax as long as it does not contain cleaners. I will go along with the fact that after a certain point you reach a level of diminished returns in your layers of product, I just don't agree that it comes as soon as the second layer is applied.

That's good to hear! I'm using the paste by hand and really like it, even though it was meant to be a temporary solution until my DG came in. It's been nearly 2 weeks now and still looks great. I put some on my wife's car a month ago and it looks good, too, and hasn't even been washed since. Seems to have some decent durability/longevity.

I'm sure putting a cleaner wax like NXT would have that effect, but even something with no abbraisives like AW? Because of the application process?

Here's a few shots from when I put it on about 12 days ago. There was no polishing prior -- just wash & NXT -- and it was done by hand. I think it looks pretty good as-is for a hand application so I'm really anxious to see if the AW helps out any.
