Why do people think we are nuts?

Monday morning at work I got the usual "How was your weekend? What did you do?". When I tell them about the PB Detailing day I get, "You are a nut" or "You are obsessed" or the best one "Dude, you need to get a life"

Why is that? It seems that you can have any hobby and it is usually acceptable but detailing your car makes you a freak?

Hunting is a sport/hobby and people dont say that you are a freak for killing animals but god forbid you use your free time killing swirls on your car with a buffer then you are a freak!!!

I dont get it!!!

Sorry for the rant

Let alone hitting that stupid ball with various metal clubs all day long, he he. :hah Notice how all the "normal" people always admire your car though huh? ;)

:yeah chasing a little ball over acres of land:nono , into man made sand dunes, and then into small ponds ...what's the point:dunno :lmfao

I wash my car once a week and get the "walkers." Last time this guys says "you must have the cleanest car in the neighborhood.." I just tell em, "some people walk, I wash"

Hey this one is a no-brainer.

Why do people think we are nuts?

Because we are!!!!

Should have seen the look on my neighbors face when I was washing the van at 6:15 am this morning. Had to do it while I had some shade, right.

Charles :D

I have found that 90% of it is that people are jealous that they have to pay upwards of $200.00 for what we spend a few hours doing and enjoy doing as well.

Also the other thing I tell people is. A lot of people look at a car as the "worst investment" you can make. While we all know that a clean, well maintained car not only lasts longer and is more of a pleasure to drive but also lasts longer.

I get the biggest kick out of people who bad mouth car manufacturers! Oh Chevy stinks because! Or Ford Stinks because....

My motto! You get what you put into it!

He may be driving around in a Brand new Benz but my 3 year old Ford Mustang will look better than his Benz will (unless he gets it detailed professionally:dunno )

Ah shoot, I have fun with it. Lots of the folks here at work, my family and friends know how I am about my truck and the wife's car. Just last week I invited them all to a surprise birthday party for the truck (it was 1 year old yesterday). I asked them to not say anything cause it was supposed to be a surprise and to bring detailing supplies as gifts!

If someone tells you you are nuts - tell them you sure are and you're glad they aren't squirrly. If they say you need to get a life, ask them where they got their's. If they tell you that you are obssessed, ask them if they know a good exorcist. (Yes, I know - it's a play on words and forces them to think).

Play along with it - I do. I get plenty of that from folks here at work, my family and friends. But I never take it seriously and just laugh along with it - if it's funny, and it often is.

I was going to by an EZUP and I am picturing what my neighbors would say.

"Now look at this idiot. He bought a tent just to wash his car"

Kind of funny though

When I tell people that I like to view detail sites like Detail City and Autopia on the computer they think Im nuts . There favorette saying is "get a life". I like to clean cars and I like to read about cleaning cars whats wrong with that.

Now that IS sick!!!

Funny as hell. But sick

The other funny thig I get is "How many different ways can you clean a car that you need to always talk to people and actually meet to spend a day with them?"

My answer You would be surprised

Me too!!!

I have so many MF I could supply the Merry Maids. I even bought more from Steve this weekend. Of everything I have I think MF is THE addiction!

Oh and that friggin S&W. Now that I know how to use it right I bought a friggin gallon. Like I need a gallon when you can do a whole car with a couple of ounces!

And PB PP. Got 32oz this weekend. "A little goes a long way" Did I need 32 oz? NO!! Got it anyway.

The list goes on and on

Damn, I AM a NUT!!!

Soo True! I live in an apartment complex and the people walking by always say something about how I'm always out there obsessively cleaning. But, they always end up saying that I have the nicest and cleanest car in the whole place.

Another up-side is that I've met ALL my neighbors, gotten a few dates out of it (woot!), and made some really good new friends.

Exactly...I asked a friend at work how my car looked one time, I told him I had used something new, and wanted his opinion. He told me" "I can't tell an difference, your car ALWAYS looks great."

I think an Added question shoud be... How many compliments do you get about your car?

I know for me....Just about anywhere I go I get a "Nice Car" comment. Gas Station, Super market, Even the drive through at Burger king!

This past spring when everyone's car was constantly covered in a green hue, I got a compliment wow nice car How do you keep it so clean. To which My girlfriend responded "He's anal and obsessive compulsive when it comes to cleaning this car"

I just smiled! Because its true.

i work at a valvoline instant oil change part time and i know the value of maintaining a vehicle from the inside, but now after getting involved in this forum, i enjoy maintaining the outside just as much. i get up at 5 in the morning to go to work and the first thing i do is turn on the computer and read anything i may have missed the night before on the forum.

i too have gotten comments from neighbors about washing my truck at 6 in the morning.

i work in construction and i am even considering buying a beater truck for work because i hate it when my truck is dirty and the dust from the job everyday is horrible, and i don't have time to maintain it like i want to.

gotta say though, i love reading this forum. the people seem great and the information is awesome!

Yep, same here, absolutely!

Definitely get that beater truck, it may just be the best money you ever spent!
