WHY do people do this?

trafficyz1.png

It annoys me to no end...

LOL, nice drawing, dude. What do you want them to do, make the right and go around the block? I personally always do stuff like that to avoid having to cross traffic, etc.

PS Which truck is yours?

One of my most hated driving behaviors is when someone is about to pull out, then stops. They stay that way for a long time... then when you're just a few feet from them, THEN they decide to suddenly gun it in front of you! What's wrong with them? Either go or don't you idiot!

Don't be mad at them. You are just jealous because you can't do it. Remember?

:D Just messing with you man. I like your cool little drawings.

According to the drawing they shouldn't be crossing there because of the double yellow. However I guess it depends on the traffic conditions on the street. I can't think of an instance around here that has that exact scenario though.

I hate it when people try to turn left across four lanes of traffic especially during rush hour. So much easier and safer to turn right and turn around at the next gas station etc.

Because they want to move to Los Angeles and are learning how to drive there? Seriously, if that annoys you can you imagine how irritated I get? Imagine similar situation with 3 lanes each way instead of your one, traffic being such (fast and dense) that turning left is impossible and endangers everybody (hence double yellow) yet person from the right wanting left bolting in front of everyone, making them slam on the brakes. Or persons in intersection lane turning left continuing to drive through well after their light turned red even though they were not in intersection when ligh turned red, they were several cars behind, as if attitude they have gives them that right.

I wish Darwinism would take care of it. Unfortunately, they always hurt someone innocent in the process too.

This is actually something I've had on my mind for a long time. Is it legal to make left turns by crossing double yellow lines when coming out of a driveway/parking lot? Usually when you aren't allowed, they have the signs that say that you can't turn left. I believe that you are allowed to make left turns into and out of roads that are marked with double yellow lines.

Double solid lines: You may not pass, or change lanes. You may not cross the lines except when turning left to enter or leave the highway (e.g., to or from a driveway or to perform a U-turn see Chapter 5).

Please correct me if I'm wrong. The wording is somewhat ambiguous, and since I don't drive yet, I don't know whether this is really allowed.

Exactly. I'm pretty sure it's legal. If you people have a problem with something that is legal, maybe you should see your representitive about getting a city ordinance passed. Otherwise, people aren't doing anything wrong unless there are "no left turn" signs.

I wouldn't even consider turning right and then turning around to go the direction I need to go. I'll just wait until there's an opening. I'm the one waiting, so what's it to you? (that's how I feel at least)

To be honest...I'm more pissed off about the second red car in that picture since he is sitting at a red light but didn't leave enough room in front of him to let the guy in the parking lot out. That's the most inconsiderate thing about that drawing.

That simply begs the question, since TruZoom has a red truck...WHICH red vehicle in the picture belongs to him? Is it the one getting cut off--or is it the inconsiderate one at the stoplight! Autopians demand the truth!! :LOLOL :rofl

Just busting on ya, Zoomer!

It may not be illegal but it sure is unsafe. If i see a person pulling out to the right I will let them in all day long but if they try to turn left there is no way i will give them the space b/c i have seen numerous accidents where the opposing traffic couldnt see the person out and by then its too late. Also I believe if you allow them to pull out and this results in an accident you can be held responsible for letting them out.

People do "this" because A) It's legal unless there's a sign specifically prohibiting it, and B) it's fairly common that it's the only practical way to get where you need to go. There's no rule I've ever heard of in any of the six states where I've lived that prohibits turning across a double-yellow line to enter or exit a road. It only prohibits crossing the line to overtake and pass a vehicle in front of you. The manuveur illustrated above can be performed perfectly safely but it does require paying attention.

I won't try to make cute little drawings but couple of things people do in traffic that really bug me do come to mind, such as a simple 4-way stop. Cars aren't supposed to go "1, 2, 3, 4" from different directions like I see happen frequently. Oncoming vehicles are supposed to go at the same time, with through traffic having right-of-way over left-turning cars. And of course there's the rule that the car on the right has right-of-way. It's really not that hard, but so many folks seem to simply have no comprehension how a 4-way stop works.

What I really hate are the "No Turn On Red" signs. *** is the purpose, last time I got pulled over was b/c I made a right hand turn at a red light and didn't see that itty bitty sign (wouldn't have looked for it anyway as it was a road I've driven on for years). After driving for years and making right hand turns at red lights that just f's with your mind as it's a common reaction, like riding a bike, you never forget lol.

LOL, hey Setec, that's me making a left out of the Bed Bath & Beyond parking lot crossing over the double lane on to Morris Turnpike heading towards Rt. 24!

Do it all the time :dance

It's only dangerous if the person isn't paying attention......which most driving is. Saying that you could be responsible for letting them out is ridiculous (no offense). You would have no fault for leaving space for another grown up person to make their own decision. That's like saying that the place that sells a knife to a murder is liable. Just because you give them the availablitiy doesn't mean your responsible if they abuse their options.

LOL. I guess that does make things quite different :) I, for one, would definitely not risk my life to cross three lanes of traffic and mind the fourth lane that I'm going into. I'd probably try to get out on the road on the right (the one that's going left/right) by making a left turn.
