Why do I need a glaze?

What are glazes used for? If I polish down to a flawless finish, why would I need a glaze before applying an LSP?

a glaze will enhance the look even better and it will hide minor defects. the glaze will give it the wet look. you dont have to use a glaze its just another step to make a finish more perfect ha

You dont need a glaze if you polish correctly.

I have been working and working at trying to achieve a finish that is as good as (or better than) the gloss I get with a good glaze like RMG, DWG, GEPC, MFTG, etc. I am getting closer, but I'm still not there. Even after *multiple* jeweling applications of FPII with a red wave finishing pad, I can't get the same gloss as I can with a good glaze.

As Todd says, you can only get clear coat *so* shiny by polishing. After that, you need to put something *on* it to increase the gloss further.

So you don't *need* a glaze, but for the absolute best gloss you can get, you can't beat a glaze.

And a glaze will look *much* better than how most people finish off their polishing jobs (white LC foam with a "heavy" finishing polish like 106). Also, it's about impossible to achieve a 100% correction on most cars. A good glaze will help hide the imperfections that are too deep to safely remove.

^^ Thanks, Sup! Is a glaze usually applied by hand? What kind of high quality glaze should I be looking for? I'm topping with 845. Would there be any problem with:

Clay

Polish with ZPC w/white pad UDM (car has very little swirling or marring)

Glaze?

ZAIO

Z2 Pro x1

Z6 wipedown

Top with 845

Z6 wipedown

Z8 wipedown

That process looks very good. Denase Wet Glaze is a very good glaze for use with sealants like Zaino. The majority of glazes out there are meant to be used before applying a carnauba based LSP, and won't play well at all with sealants. DWG is a great exception. It doesn't do much to hide/fill defects, but it will amp the gloss *substantially*. Apply it with a zero cut foam pad (grey/black, blue, red) with a PC on speed five. Work it til it disappears, then wipedown with a clean MF. I do the whole car, wait 30 mins (probably not really necessary, but I like to make sure the DWG is totally cured), then apply the Z2. Since the base for the Z is DWG, I'd use ZFX in the Z2 for best curing/bonding results.

Since you mentioned that you'll be topping with 845, you could also substitute one of the other glazes, skip the Z, and just go with the 845.

Or you could try both methods, and see which you like best. ;)

Shouldn't the glaze be applied after the AIO?

Also, is a Z6 wipedown followed by a Z8 wipedown overkill or redundant?

D'oh, I didn't notice the AIO in there, and you are correct, snowskate. The glaze would go after the AIO, otherwise the abrasives and cleaners in ZAIO would remove the DWG.

I just tried the Menzerna glaze, it doesn't get a lot of chatter here but I'll tell ya - it works! I used a LC blue CCS pad and a PC, just use 2 small dots to start and then 1 per panal. A little bit goes a long way. Apply - wipe off, move to the next.

With all the hype about DWG, I purchased some and applied. I had polished, sealed, waxed in April. in June I removed all LSP with CGCW&G and applied DWG, EX-P, Natty's Blue. I would have to say I was disappointed in the glaze. Perhaps I applied it wrong (Porter 7424, speed on 3, black pad), but I saw no difference between panels w and w/o glaze side by side after applying and wipe off. Perhaps it takes time to cure to bring out the gloss? My car is pretty new, black metallic 2008. Maybe that is why. But I did not see any visible difference that would encourage me to use the glaze again. I expected to see someting noticeable.

Yeah, Menzerna Finishing Touch Glaze is a good one, but it is also one that won't play well with sealants. Menzerna says you can use their Full Molecular Jacket sealant after their MFTG, but the FMJ will only last a week or two. Putting MFTG under Zaino ruined the Z's notorious durability, too; it was gone in two weeks as well. So stick with nubas if you're going to use MFTG.

Your experience with DWG is in the minority, rjom. Most people really like the way it amps the gloss. It should be noticeable immediately. I apply it at speed six until it disappears, then wipe it down wth an MF until it looks really glossy. Don't know why you didn't get good results with it.

No problem - I've gone full 'nuba now. And side note - Megs 26 is a very under-rated wax, I've had more compliments on my car after that than any other product - zaino included.

what do you guys think about OPtimum Poliseal? it s a glaze, and it has good lubricant. I have found easy using it..

for a finishing glaze does it need to be worked in or just spread around? ie. Pinnacle XMT Carnauba Finishing Glaze

Are you using a DA or doing it by hand? I'm partial to Poorboy's Black Hole and White Diamond and I apply them on speed three with the G100.

junebug - is that what was on your car during the detail meet at Brandon's? If so it did look outstanding!

I am more of a sealant guy for my cars and nuba for my few clients ;) I will have to sample some #26 from ads or somewhere....
