I have around 10 or so coats of zaino on the car, pretty fresh also...no older then 3 months or so. I had an emergency that I had to take care of, and the only place I could park the car was under some trees. A week later, the car is covered in leaves, bird turd, ect. I go home, wash the car, and notice that every place a leaf would be, there would be a small, filmy circle on the paint that wont come off. It almost feels sticky. Do I have to clay the whole car all over again and start from scratch? Or is there a way to get these spots off the car.

If you are gently and don't use lots of pressute, I doubt clay would remove 10 coats of Z. Give it a try.

If you have to polish or use a bug/tar remover, that most likely will remove the Z and you'll have to start over.

I had the same problem on the hood of a black Expedition. I tried to get the etching out myself and thought that I had been successful. The finish looked absolutely perfect. The spots came back in less than 24 hours. I then had a body shop wetsand and polish the hood. Again the spots came back. The hood had to be stripped to bare metal and repainted.

I do not use Zaino, but I had a very good sealant (Meg's) on the truck.

Good luck.

What kind of tree is it that has paint-eating leaves?

Please share so we can all know which trees to avoid in future.

It's not the leaves, it's probably the sap from the tree...and it can be lots of them. I try to never park under trees. If it's not sap, then you have to watch out for bird poop.

I dont think its the sap. You can see the small sap dots on the car, and they wash off fine. Its where ever the leaf was, there was a circle of film almost three times the size of the leaf on the car. Kind of like the leaf fell, it rained, and whatever was on the leaf washed off onto the car. I thought zaino was supposed to protect against stuff like this. Is it possible that something in the zaino reacted to whatever is in this tree?

I also have a feeling that im going to have to clay, and polish with some menzerna IP. Is it bad to polish too much? The car is a year old and I already did a IP, FP PC-job under the zaino thats on their now.

Well heres the recap...

Washed with dawn, did nothing.

Clayed the areas...did NOTHING

PC'd with FP, NOTHING

PC'd with IP...something.

I went over the areas a few times, and I got most of it out. Its just such a waste though...I had so many coats of zaino on their. Ughhh. So watch out for those car eating tree's

Could it possibly be algae? Wet leaves provide the nutrients, naturally there's sunlight, and algae spores are floating in the air all the time. In pools, we get mainly 3 types of algae. Black algae can actually be hard to remove from pools. And the algae will grow in the tiny "pores" of the paint, making it really hard to get to them with clay or a polish. Have you tried any chemical cleaners (other than Dawn, which doesn't do much on algae)? I don't know of any automotive cleaners that contain an algaecide, or an algaecide that is recommended for paint. You could check a bodyshop and a pool supply store to see what they recommend.

Hate to say it, though, but whatever you use, I'd bet the Zaino would need redone. But you can look on the bright side. It is a good excuse to spend some more quality time on your car!

Hope this helps.

I wonder if the zaino reacted somehow with whatever came off the leaf from the rain. I wonder if anyone else that uses zaino has had a similar problem?
