Who's got a CR Spotless

Ya it should have come with a black plastic wrench, looks like a big circle; slides under the filters. Go all the way to the top and turn left.

ha, I have the wrench and believe me.....after almost 15 minutes of torment, I have totally given up. This is my 2nd try at it.......tried earlier last week.

I've gone as far as even turning it rightside up to drain the water out, which is a slow process in itself, had tried doing a bunch of hard wacks with the wrench versus just *unscrewing* with the wrench, etc, etc --- these filters are not budging.

chefwong- I find a *lot* of cartridge-filter things (including my CRSpotless) are sometimes quite hard to unscrew. IME you sometimes just have to be pretty forceful (and then watch how tight you put 'em back on ;) ).

Make sure the wrench is up as high as you can get it (close to the threads). Position it so you can get a good whack delivered right along the spine of the wrench and then do that whack using a dealblow hammer/mallet instead of the wrench. While I wouldn't go utterly caveman on it, I wouldn't worry too much about damaging anything either.

Go for a quick, sharp impact.

Good ole Accumulator to the Autopia Community rescue once again.

The hammer did the trick !

Prior to this, even with the hard *whacks* without the hammer...I was even leaving some plastic marks on the canister itself. The hammer against the *wrench ribs* totally did the trick. Much thanks for the INFORMATIVE info...

Since the problem is solved, Ill start a new discussion.

Who has gotten a CR system recently, or has received the new style cartridges for any reason? The new cartridges have a white tube with blue ends. The old style has a clear tube and white ends.

I think there is a design flaw with the new style cartridges. As you tighten the housing the cartridges don't twist freely like they did with the old design, so you actually over tighten the top of the cartridge and cause it to strip. Has anyone else had this problem? I think the problem is with the rubber washer at the top.

I had probelms too taking the tubes off the first time. First, be sure the little tabs that stick out from the wrench are NOT placed in between the thin lines on the blue tubes. Have the tabs go up the large open areas so you get close to the top and tight around. I had to lay my CR down on the floor to get better balance and put a lot of pressure to finally loosen them.

I have the new cartridges but don't have that same problem. Mine twist freely as I tighten the canister. I got my CR about 4 months ago from Costco.

Picus- You've only had it for 4 months but you've taken it apart that many times?!? Gee, yours is getting a lot more use than mine is.

Well, I it came dissembled, so that was once.. :D The other two times were during garage reno stuff. My garage is a work in progress and the CR was mounted on a wall, so I had to move it a couple times. I've changed the resin in it once since I bought it. Of course I'm running a business so you know, lots of water usage and stuff.

Heh heh, actually, I bet most every CRSpotless owner uses it more often than I do (well, I can think of one other guy here who seldom bothers with it ;) ). I really only use it regularly on the dog-haulers, especially the DenaliXL. And by the time I finish doing *that* beast I'm not in the mood to be be draining/maintaining *anything* :grinno:

How do you like the wall-mounting? I kinda like the "nothing permanent" aspect of having it on the cart.

I don't really like it; I feel the same way you do, hard to tie myself to something permanent. Every time I feel like I have a spot for it where it will work and not get in the way I end up moving it; so I've got it back on the cart now. With the quick connects & on the cart it's almost tolerably portable. :D

I took it apart tonight (not sure why, garage is heated but whatever, I was bored. :D), still no issues with the new cartridges.
