I bought an aspen white 05 Subaru STi about 2 months ago to serve as a dedicated daily driver in the Chicagoland area where I live. I searched the forums for the most durable wax, and ended up going with Collinite 925 (as I couldn't source any 845 locally, and they are the same rebadged product anyways.)



Prep consisted of a thorough wash with dish washing soap. Then I gave the car 2 coats of Collinite. This was done on June 18th. With the first rain I was simply stunned. I stood in awe at how the water was beading off. I have never in my 10 years of car care seen water bead like that. Fast forward to this week: the wax has just now (after much sun, rain, dirt, and car washes) started to bead less on the hood. I attribute this to the temperature that the aluminum hood sees.



Absolutely fantastic product. And if you've read this far, I do have one question. Can I use a sealer over the Collinite or is that not recommended?



Basically I am not going to take off the wax. Claybar, wash, prep, and I wanted to polish the paint. I am looking for the best polish to make my white paint look stunning. What do you guys suggest? And keep in mind I'd still like to use the Collinite over whatever you suggest, as it is extremely durable.

That Collinite is always a long laster! I too have used the Marine line products on my car and they workout well.



My advice to you, i know you said you were going to polish but is to atleast use a paintwork cleaner if you dont. You see, it helps if the paintwork is clean "BELOW" the surface. For sealants, it essential for bonding, for waxes it helps not get eating from below.



Neither claying nor dawn washes do the same as apply a dedicated cleaner product or polishing with a dual action cleaner style polish.



On to your Q about a sealant, for get it! I doubt any will really out last the Collinite thats worth using. The looks difference will be minimal and almost not worth it in terms of putting Collinite over say Zaino; It would just warp the look.



Some will argue 925 and IW (the car version) will acutally remove to disrupt product below b/c they have a solvent content.



Enjoy, the pre-clean or polish will help remove stains from the paint (as well as other things) and really make it brighter!

I have Collinite 476s as the base on our white Accord. I put one coat of DWG and then a coat of Danase Sealant over it, they added nicely to the gloss and depth. DWG is one product you can layer over waxes with good results.

I have an 06 steel gray sti and plan on using the 845 or several layers of UPGP when I do my first full detail soon. Glad to hear the collinite doing it's thing well! :grinno:

wow, you put something OVER collinite? i've been using 845 for 35 years and have never found the need. after a lite polish and 2 coats of 845 all of my white vehicles look like i've poured clear urathane over them.
 
Here you go guys, although this is before the Collinite. No worries though, I will DEFINITELY post pics after the polish and wax with a real buffer :)

If you need any help playing with some machines/polishes I'm in Chicago as well and can help out.. car looks good and it's good that you found a wax to last long in Chicago, as they are rare haha
