Who wants to fill In the Arsenal holes?

Ok so lately I've been getting a bit more confident with detailing (not to say I don't need to perfect things--but I'll keep working at it) and now I'm looking to progress a little more as details go.

MY Arsenal (updated)

Flex3401

2 LC CCS Black

2 LC CCS Red

2 LC CCS Orange

1 LC HT Crimson

1 LC HT Tangerine

1 LC HT Cyan

M105

M205

P21s Wheel Gel

P21s Total Auto Wash

303 Aerospace Protectant

ONR

Meg's Hyper Dressing

Collinite 476s

Collinite 845

Collinite 915

Thinking, I would like to get some kind of cleaner? for the between claybar and correction/polish? or would a claybar/polish/ipa be sufficient to clean?

Any suggestions would be great

Currently Considering

Some kind of cleaner?

Wheel Cleaner/sealant--anything for wheels

Dressings for

Engine Bay

Interior

Possibly a product/suggestion that I can 1 step with on a potential person's car

Thanks guys.

Boar's hair brush

Wheel Brush

Sonus Green for maintenance claybar/prep

ZAIO (TBH I didn't think I'd ever use a Zaino product... but maybe I will after all)

Optimum Opti-Seal

1000P

Leather Master

Optimum Car Wax

Meguiar's Ultimate Quik Wax

Hydrotech 7/8 Pads

Im new to the game as well but I like the P21s Gel Wheel Cleaner. It cleaned 2 yr old break dust with minimal effort.

is it all wheel friendly? because my BMW stock rims i think are Diod but I mean working with lots of different kinds, the last thing I need is to do more damage, but also need something that works...so safety (health and car) with performance ...I'm really leaning towards the P21s--you're the second to mention that product...

If you want more bling, I'd get a real finishing polish like PO85RD and some DWG. Your waxes are good, but looks are subjective.

Well I've come to the simple conclusion that different people want different things for their cars--so I'm trying to get as much input as possible because the last thing I want to do is not be familiar with a product (I'm going to be testing it on my brothers old Protege, my Family's BMW and Lexus) on someone else's car. I've yet to try the 845 and the 915 yet but I plan on doing a write up of it soon.

Anything special about the PO85RD and DWG? KIM that I'll be using my FLEX 3401 (though I have a Vector rotary... umm...I don't think I need to explain why I don't like using it lol)

For wheels, and engine bay, thinking maybe, PS21s tire gel and TAW, not sure what I want to dress with (dress wouldn't be so much for my personal cars as I only care that it's clean but for instance I have someone who has an after market intake and upgraded turbo with shiny parts)

but for rubber thinking maybe I'll use the Meg's Hyper Dressing till I run out...

For 1 steppers, I should be using an AIO? or is 205 good? My concern is--what about the contaminants? In the past i didn't worry so much because i figured the claybar/compound would wisk all that away.....

Alexshmshimhae- Yeah, get some of the Menzerna PO85RD (or maybe their FPII instead), if only so you can quit thinking about whether you have every single situation covered ;)

[Insert cynical comments regarding jeweling/burnishing other people's cars...and note that I'm one of the first guys to post about how swell it makes things look. ]

Once you decide which pads you like with which products, get a lot more of 'em (I can use over 6-8 pads easily on the M105ing of a big job).

Get some P21s or Griot's Wheel Cleaner and some good (boar's hair) brushes.

P21S Total Auto Wash is pricey, but it's a good all-purpose APC (heh heh heh). You'll find it handy for everything from engines and undercarriages to interiors. Later, you can figure out less-costly alternatives, but at least the TAW won't damage stuff (except for some undercoatings/etc., be careful using it on those).

Rubber (that I'm not LSPing)- Clean with Griot's Rubber Prep (true miracle product, simply incredible), treat with Wurth or 1Z Gummi Pledge (sp?) stick or Wurth Rubber Care or Ultima's trim sealant.

Dressings (which I hardly ever use for anything)- Autoglym Bumper Care and 303.

On one-step jobs, I wouldn't worry much about the contamination/etc. as you're doing a somewhat half-@$$ed job just by definition. Use some kind of AIO . I dunno what to recommend as I just don't do 1-steps, but the FK stuff sounds good, KAIO is just a chemical cleaner, ZAIO is OK for this, 1Z PP doesn't last long enough nor does SRP. I wouldn't use M205 because it doesn't leave any protection behind (we *are* talking about a true one-step-that-does-it-all, right?).

well i was going to put some kind of lsp/ just thought if i'm not ganna compound polish, maybe I should get something that'll get the paint lsp safe after i claybar (last thing i need is to catch flack for sealing in contaminants; or does that not matteR?)

I mean I don't know how fast wheel cleaner burns up, but I mean I feel like it should be good (plan to buy them all in gallon sizes)

I'm just curious what the pro detailers are using ... but i feel bad asking =[

I would try out the Prima lines. German product that will Amaze you. Prima Banana Gloss is one of them. It's a fast easy wax that hazes almost immediately when put on. Gives a nice shine, even hide some imperfection with ease. It's like a wax+glaze=win.

Catch flak from whom? As per my other post, normal people only know if a car looks good and for how long.

For that matter, people got by fine for decades before clay came out ;)

I've done nothing but wash, cursory polish with 1Z PP, coat of Collinite. Owner was very happy.

Gee, I'm advocating slip-shod work huh? Think somebody like an in-law, who's getting a free "wash and wax", will see it that way? I don't.

But yeah, skipping the clay is kinda bad :o

Noting for the umpteenth time that I'm not a pro, yeah...you'll burn through Wheel Cleaner pretty fast. I always buy gallons. Last time I bought an acidic wheel cleaner I thought to myself "gee, I'll never use all this in a million years" but I bought a gallon anyhow. Guess what I'm running low on, even though I never use it on our vehicles and "never" do cars for anybody else...famous last words and when you need potent stuff you might need plenty of it.

I skip clay frequently when I'm short on time. I use TW ICE liquid clay as the wash and then follow with DG501 on a polishing pad. The paint comes out silky smooth.

so for skipping clay forego the onr?

Depends on the situation. I'd still get the ONR and use clay, but there are alternatives, not better, but faster.

I don't really mind claying (then again of all the times i've detailed i think my recent BMW was the absolute worst SMH...) but thinking about getting one of those claybar pads...

Any ideas/tips on jeweling with the flex? Even Possible? instead of jeweling, should I just ipa after polish and just put down a glaze?

OK now I'm thinking....maybe I can onr/clay/205 for quick $150 jobs? and top with say OS? *just realized i dunno what lsp i would use for other people's cars*

Eh, just IMO, but I'm adamantly :nono about those. Harder to control the pressure and keep it gentle, impossible to feel subtle stuff, tendency to not knead/replace the clay nearly often enough...whole lotta negatives IMO, even though one guy here (who had a white Toyota truck IIRC) did like his.

Done properly (or at least what *I* consider properly), claying is something that oughta be done very carefully and consciously, at least when you're not planning to do a major correction. Remember that every time clay picks up a speck of abrasive stuff, it immediately turns into sandpaper.

yea, i was giving it some thought and realized i spoke too soon lol...I was just EXTREMELY annoyed when i had to clay my bmw and it felt like the only way for the clay to make a dent was to like work the crap out of it (after two hours of trying to be patient, i opted to just clay once over DECENTLY and just compound it--which was so much better imo though ionno if i did more damage--but figured claying something that ridiculous might be worse)
