Who plays Elec. Bass?

Hey guys, the past few years, well like, 5, ive become very interested in playing a bass guitar. I was a trombone player in MS, HS, Jazz, Pep bands etc. for the school so im already familiar with the bass clef, and can read music. Ive seriously considered buying a nice bass guitar and finding somewhere/someone to take lessons from to learn the how-to's. So basically, im here for you guys to tell me what to look for in a guitar, amp, etc etc etc.

I used to play bass guitar back in the day... put my self through school playing bass in a rock band and a theatrical company performing "Godspell".



I've owned an Dan Armstrong/Ampeg bass, a Fender Jazz bass and a Gibson G3 Ripper bass. For amps, my first was a Traynor with 2 15" speakers, the last amp was a 100 watt Marshall through 4 15" Altec Lansing speakers



You can't go wrong with either a Fender Precision or Jazz bass and an Ampeg B15 to start out with.

I play bass and guitar, I actually just sold my bass though as I never play it anymore. I started out on an Ibanez art-core with some crappy 30w amp. I agree with the above though, fender is good to start out on and ampeg is awesome as well. If you can read music already I wouldn't waste my time with lessons, just get a dvd and teach yourself. Only thing I'll say, is that find a local shop and make them restring the bass your by and set it up properly before you buy it. It makes a world of difference.
