I have, 3 weeks ago pretty bad, and now I'm just getting over the stomach flu as they call it. Its just not fair, I got blindsided 3 weeks apart. Talk about bad luck:(

My sister caught it, and developed pneumonia. She's back home from the hospital now, but it was pretty bad. I talked to her yesterday, she was happy her temp was down to 100*.

I just finished a book about the epidemic of 1918; it was pretty scary stuff. If that were to happen now, it would still take us down pretty bad. Most people who died did so because there simply weren't enough doctors and hospital beds.

I think I got a mild case from my brother. We all went out to eat at a Japanese Hibachi place for his daughter's 18th birthday and I sat next to him. Near the end of the meal, I mentioned to him he was sounding a bit hoarse and asked if the smoke was getting to him. He said it wasn't the smoke, he was getting over the flu.

Now I have a sore throat, mild headache and some light pain in my lower back...and I am waxing a 44' motorcoach tomorrow!

Uh Oh, After my initial symptoms less than 12 hours I was helpless. Couldn't do nothing but lay in bed.

Good luck, Hope you stay clear of it.

I had it in early January. I couldn't sleep because I had this bad stomach pain, then I went to the bathroom and drank a few handfuls of water from the sink, and immediately threw them up again.

Oddly enough, I felt MUCH better after that, and I went right to sleep. I slept for most of the following two days, without eating much. I did get up to check the Autopia forums a few times though. And I drank a good couple dozen or more cups of water those days.

I usually get a cold every winter and that's it for the year. I already had my cold so I *hope* I'm in the clear.

I went through that in late May....and I couldn't get my car door open quickly enough. Talk about extreme detailing! I think it was food posioning though because after I finished throwing up (3-4 times in my car and 4-5 more times while showering), I felt much better but extremely tired. I slept from about 7PM to nearly noon the next day.

I had this stomach flu too ... really bad.

Felt a little tired for a few hours, like the onset of a light cold, then all hell broke loose! Five hours later, all spent in the bathroom, I finally "held on " to some water and collapsed in bed for a very rough nights sleep. The following two days I slept like a baby and took nothing but water (gallons of it). Even on the third day drinking the water still left a "tickle" in the back of my throat and I didn't eat any solids until the 5th day!

Bad news.. I hope no one else gets it, but it seems to be the 'bug of the moment' in my home town.

I have had it real bad the last two weeks. First a stomach flu, now a throat infection that keeps me on a liquids only diet.

I read Autopia to stop thinking about the pain.

You guys sound like you have had a really miserable time...unfortunately, that is the flu. I'm surprised one member's sister was discharged from the hospital still with fever after secondary pneumonia. I presume her cultures stated it was viral..I would not have sent any of my patients home still febrile with a bacterial pneumonia. It would mean that she was on possibly the wrong antibiotic. Flu leaves suseptible patients open to secondary bacterial infection, most often in the lungs (ie..pneumonia). My 19 yr old daughter had the "stomach flu" not long ago with all the symptoms people stated here. I bought a pair of wristbands at the drug store with a small button on each that are placed over a pressure point on the wrist. I had read of people using them for sleep, motion sickness etc with sucess. They are about 7-8 bucks a pair and what a sucess! I was amazed and I have been practicing in critical care for 25 years! She stopped vomiting altogether and promptly went to sleep for the next 8 hours. She kept the Tylenol down and her temp dropped to less thatn 100 and stayed there since she was able to keep it down. She was able to keep sipping Coke (did you know cola syrup is an old fashioned remedy for nausea? You can still get it at the drugstore) to keep up her fluid and electroylte intake. You do need lots of fluids but plain water will not replace the electrolytes (sodium etc) lost to vomiting and the sugar provides some calories. If you can"t stand Coke, try 7-UP or gingerale. Chicken broth and Goldfish crackers will stay down after 24 hours generally and there is nothing wrong with good old Popsicles either. My daughter was out and about after 2 days. Her friends were down for 5-7. If I get sick with this stuff, I'm going to give the bands a try. I was very impressed at their ability to releive the misery, if nothing else. Some people use them as sleep aids every night. As for the respiratory flu, get a flu shot every year, assuming we won't have a shortage like this season. Get it when you can have the next day off...they can make you feel kind of rummy for 18-24 hours.

mtwedt-very informative post! I know in my case it was food posioning because I had absolutely no fever or other symptoms and once I finished throwing up, I felt tired, but a lot better overall. I think one of the reasons I slept so long is because I regularly am going on 5-6 hours of sleep per day.

I'm getting over something very similar to what everyone's been saying. I woke up yesterday morning and nearly passed out at the bathroom sink, got really dizzy. Felt nauseous, and with the help of my wife, got back into bed and pretty much stayed there all day.

Felt a bit better today, though I am still a bit dizzy, and I haven't had much to eat the past 48 hours.
