Who drive a Tacoma?

If you do have one or have had one let me know how you liked or did not like it. I am really leaning toward trading in my RS for a Tacoma. I was going to go cheap...was thinking 4 banger extended cab, automatic.

I just picked up a 4 cyl, 03 with 45k on it. 5sp manual SR5 X-cab, A/C, rear slider, bed liner. With all the city traveling I do, I couldnt resist. I went from 220 miles a tankful (28 gl) with the Dodge Cuad cab, to 250 miles a tankful (16 gl). Significant savings per month at $3.30 a gl. Of course it doesnt have the balls the V-8 does, but i only need impress myself anyway.

My brother-in-law just bought one and loves it. They aren't cheap though, good examples are going to be close to $10,000. Toyotas hold their value nicely.
 
I had a 97. LOVED it. I sold it locally and still get to see it from time to time. 167k and still going stong.

The two Cummins trucks, and the Tacoma were BY FAR my favorite of all my trucks. The Tacoma was solid, rode great, handled better, got great fuel economy, good power, and generally a joy to own.



I couldn't give it a higher recomendation. Kinda like Antec PC Cases :getdown .

I had an 01 V6 TRD Prerunner that I drove for 3 years. Then I sold it and bought the Chevy listed below. As far as dislikes go, they were few. It was fairly loud on the highway, and the seats weren't all the comfortable. The cabin was small too, compared to a full sized truck. But other than that it was a great truck. I drove it for 84,000 miles and never had a single engine problem. I read a Tacoma message board every day when I had my truck and the only thing that seemed to go out on people's trucks was the power steering pump. This was a 4x4 board, and I suspect that oversized tires contributed a lot to that. If you want some extra power, TRD makes superchargers for both the 4 and 6 cylinders. I don't know if they make anything for the new model 6 cylinder though. I put a supercharger on mine and it was a lot of fun, except there were some fuel problems in hot weather. Anyway, the Tacoma is a great truck.

Since we have two Imprezas I am! LOL I need something bigger so we thought about the Forrester or Baja but I think I could really use a truck. I am in the process of getting my builders license as well so maybe a truck would get used more. Right now it would even get used a lot though.
 
I tow and haul a bunch of stuff round some times out of town and I need is at lest 220 hp for the hills and freeways. Ford Trucks like the Rangers are fun to drive power and torque when I need it ether 4 wheeling or fwy driving but mainly towing. My truck 6 cylinder 4.0L @ 235 hp & 200 + of torque (mods) gets 22mpg fwy 16 town. A friend owns a 4 cylinder Ranger he gets 28 mpg It’s a fun truck to drive.

I drove Toyota’s trucks they are ok but they are just too under powered and to low geared and way over priced and there interior is not that good.
 
I've never been hip with the 4 cylinder Ranger... 8 spark plugs on the newer ones, and they seem to have pretty thrasy throttle response. My brother has a '99 that puked the automatic transmission just shy of 90,000 miles and he had it serviced regularly. If you go the B-series/Ranger route... I'd look to the V6 engines...
 
Toyota’s transmissions had problems big time soo I seen Toyota’s engines blow up @ 25,000 maybe because of there trucks bounce all over the place and the engine falls out? maybe the steering gear & joints gets all goofy. Brakes rotors needs to be replaced often, computer failure, can’t cruse @ 70 mpg can’t tow up hills, problems /w balljoints, problems /w inside switches, problems getting stuck going up hill four wheeling, problems tipping over on side is a big problem /w Toyota 4X4 trucks? But Toyota is a good truck for non commercial use.
 
When I was looking to replace my 98 Frontier 4-banger I was very interested in the Tacoma. Mostly because its one of the few non-full-size trucks that you can get a decent bed length in. My Frontier is a Kingcab, so it has a full 6' bed....try finding that without buying an F250 :)



I watched the Car and Driver episode (I know, I know....consumer reports on TV) about the Tacoma. The complaints they had were the complaints listed here.......uncomfortable seats, lack of road feel, etc. I also didnt like the high price tag (28K with decent options and a V6) but compared to other trucks the price was pretty close. I like the new Frontier too, but wanted the longer bed and I dont think the Frontier had it.
