Also known as: C&B posting is not as easy as I thought...
Hi, all!
After doing a lot of lurking, this is my first Click & Brag post, which is likely obvious to the experienced posters here. Before we go to the pics, I'd like to apologize up front for 1)resizing the pics down a little too far, 2) the lack of closeups, 3) not having a complete understanding of how to focus my camera, 4) forgetting the before, underhood and "codpiece" shots, and 5) not according my subject the respect it deserves with better photo angles. I'll re-read the photo tips sticky thread before my next post. That said...
This car is a 1987(?) Porsche 944 Turbo, owned by a friend who lives a few minutes away. Since space is limited at his place, I have to transport the car to my humble home to detail it. The car is modded, close to 300 hp at the wheels :woot2: It was repainted Viper red several years ago, as the original Guards Red was in poor condition (my friend is the second owner), and said friend thought it looked too "orangey" in that condition. There is some orange peel in the paint, but overall, he keeps it in very good condition for a non-Autopian, mechanically and appearance-wise. Unfortunately, this car was caught in the flood that happened here a few months ago, so it got a new carpet installed (LOTS of fibers all over the interior), and was (predictably) in the shop for some repairs until about a month ago. This is his baby, though, so he does what it takes to keep the car in good running shape. The car runs well, everything works, but the paint was covered in fine swirls and fallout from sitting in the shop's parking lot waiting for parts. I was able to achieve about 90% correction on the paint, and in retrospect, I should have busted out the 83 first. The owner, however, was a happy camper.
Anyway, on to the process:
- Wash w/ Meg's Gold Class
- Clay with Clay Magic Blue
- Wheels cleaned with Castrol APC, cut 1:2
- Rain-X on exterior glass
- Pink Moose, PC on 3 to spread, 5 & 6 to polish, two complete passes on hood and roof, one for the rest of the car, buff with Pakshak Ultra Plush MF
- Collinite 845, buff with Pakshak Ultra Plush
- Vacuum interior
- Wipe/dust with a cheapo Costco MF
- Car Brite 2-in-1 Leather Cleaner/Conditioner on steering wheel, shifter/boot, dash, armrests, door panels, center console lid and rear seats
- 303 on door caps, dash, center console, shifter/boot, steering hub
- Spot removal on suede front seats, using a Costco MF and very dilute APC (about 1:10)
- Pink Moose to clean door jambs and sill plates
- Stoner's IG on inside glass
- 303 on tires and all exterior trim, applied with Costco MF
- Finished off with Souveran :getdown
Okay, here we go. As always, suggestions for improvement are welcome, 'cause I'm still learning...
More in a bit...
