Which size pads for rotary?

Mad iX

No detail for you!!!
So far I've been using mainly 6"/6.5" pads on the rotary.

In your experience, are larger 8" pads easier or more difficult to use?

Wool aside, I exclusively use 6.5 foam pads with the rotary. I find larger pads (8–10) too big for most surfaces and difficult to control.

I have the egde 2k pads and can switch from 8inch to 6 inch in a change of the pad. it's really nice the system works very well and their foam is top notch.

my 6.5" lake country's have seen better days, and now that I have the hitachi rotary on the way, I'd like to go get some new ones. I didn't really like the concaved shape that the LC's had. are propel pads flat? Will I need to buy a new backing plate for the rotary or will the exisiting 5" BP I have for the PC work?

Propel...flat as a pancake.

Your BP should have an adapter to fit PC...remove it to use on rotary.
