I have never found chrome to be too finicky about what I use on it.
If you're gonna use a "chrome polish", make sure it's not too abrasive. Griot's and Mother's make good ones.
I've used mild paint polishes to clean chrome. Chrome plating is harder than paint, so they don't hurt it any as long as you don't abrade it all the time.
I've used the K twins on both "real chrome" and "chrome over plastic". I've used liquid and paste waxes on chrome with no problems.
Note that I've been doing the chrome on the XJS for almost 20 years, so I'd have found out if any of these approaches were gonna cause trouble. It does have some thin spots on the door handles, where the combination of being hit with a polisher pad and normal use has thinned the plating, but it took a *long* time for that to happen. None of the plating has "failed" or discolored from using the wrong products on it or anything like that.
