Which PB polish under EX/EX-P?

Steve,

With all the talk about sealants needing a good base to bond with, what would you recommend for use under EX/EX-P? I'm going to assume that using either SSR2.5 or SSR1 would work fine, but since i'm not going to swirl-remove every time; would PwC or PP be better for the EX/EX-P to bond with? Should I get some UPC or more AIO? Maybe some ColorX? TIA,

Buddha

For EX-P, PP should be ok, PWC might have some bonding issues since it contains some carnauba. UPC and AIO will definitely work well.

For EX, PP should be ok, PWC ok as well.

Well, Steve can correct me if I'm wrong here....

I believe all three of those products (PWC, EX, EX-P) contain Amino-functional resins. Therefore, they all should be fairly compatible with each other. Yes, the PWC does contain some carnauba, and the EX has a tiny bit of carnauba. However, I doubt that anyone would be able to measure any differences in bonding/durability.

Having said that, there is a difference in the final look. I always try to put the best qualities of a product to use and enhance them by using other products of similar qualities, rather than use products that may tend to work against those traits.

For example.... for me, EX-P seems to give a clearer/brighter/shinier look than EX. Therefore, I would want to take advantage of that with the product I use underneath, and go with products that give a similar look...... like AIO, PP, or UPC.

On the other hand, EX tends to darken, adds depth and gloss. A product like PWC or ColorX underneath would give a similar appearance and therefore enhance that look when EX has been added to the mix.

I've tried all kinds of combinations, and I always come back to that philosophy.... it always seems to work best when you use products that compliment each others inherent characteristics.

Of course, that is just my 2 cents.

if you are looking for durability then what Sean said above is best or using PP.
if you are looking for a couple months of looks then there are numerous combinations depending on the look you like and the products you have on hand.
As Boss said, it depends if you want a bright finish or if you want a deeper look, the combination of certain products will enhance certain colors in different ways.

I've grown very partial to using SSR1 as my final polish. It seems to provide the best compromise between gloss, depth, and bonding ability. For more hiding ability, I'd reach for PwC. For maximum clarity, I'd go with Pro Polish.

Thanks for the replys guys. I'm in a situation where i'll need the clarity of EX-P on the silver cars that i detail, and the EX on darker colors. About SSR1: So repeated use (say every three months) would be ok? I've been glazing with PwC then a carnauba topper to "freshen" up the paint. Should i stick to a polishing pad, or should i try SSR1 with a finishing pad?

About Amino-Functional resins: how are they different than say the ingredients in UPP, NXT, etc?

Thanks again!

I've heard that using a finishing pad will bring out even more of a gloss to the finish;)

Most sealants (synthetic) have a similar beginning but differ in the other ingredients used
