Which Paint sealant for a first timer

I'll be doing a paint correction on a red Jetta wagon this week and it's a good candidate for a sealer. Having never used anything but Rejex, I'm wondering what would be recommended for a n00b?

Opti-Coat, CQuartz, or ...

I'm guessing none of the sealers are idiot proof.

LaMarque- You might want to edit the title/post to refer to "coatings" instead of "sealers", I suspect the latter term might be causing some confusion.

And I suspect that most people will say to go with OptiCoat.

I've never used it on a whole vehicle (just wheels) but I think that a satisfactory application on a red Jetta wagon (thinking color- for seeing the stuff while working with it, and size- not too huge) oughta be easily within the capabilities of any decent detailer.

The CarPro (Cquartx) is popular here in the UK as is the Optimum. Not sure about availability but Gtechniq also sell a coating (C1+) and a their new EXO which seems to be very easy to apply. There is a German company called Wolf who are just about to release a coating but again I do not know if this will be sold outside Europe.

I have not (yet) used either the Optimum or CarPro but both seem to offer a very long term protection to paintwork so you would probably be happy with either

Did you charge him enough to use a coating? If not, stick with Rejex, Blackfire, Menzerna or Wolfgang polymer sealants.

Out of those "coatings" not sealants, OC is the only permanent one. May or may not be an issue for you though.

BTW, Wolf is Hungarian not German. :)

Changed.

Maybe I'll wait on the Opti-Coat. It's just that where she has to park at work is under trees and besides the incredible amount of swirls and scratches, the birds and tree sap ...

I'll stay with Rejex seeing as how I have it on the shelf.

BTW - in your opinion, whats enough to charge for OC?

Ah so, CQuartz would then be used for, because ...?

Minimum of $150 for a small car on top of whatever else you charge for what you need to do to get the paint in shape for OC.

For paying a upcharge, most would want a warranty..what would you give if any Scott? On AG web site it states that OC will last as long as you own the car.

Rejex is a good product, keep using it and you'll be fine. Applying OC is pretty easy, its the prep work that is hard.

I realize this is a older thread, but I have a question. Im thinking of doing my truck with Optimum Opti-Coat 2.0. I have a NBS Silverado Black with Purple metal flake. The paint is approx. 4 months old. I will have to do it outside with the temp approx. 70 degree F. Or should I be looking at Klasse High Gloss Sealant Glaze with Collinite 915 topper? Opinions appreciated!

That's totally comparing apples to oranges. One is a permanent coating the other is a durable sealant with a durable wax on top.

What sort of prep work are you planning on doing? That will really make the difference in which to apply.

Wash n Clay. Could i get away with doing the Opti outside?

You could get away with it, but you'll need to do an IPA wipedown afterwards. You'd likely need to do a polish as well. Just applying Opticoat to an unpolished finish is like microwaving a good steak.

Dan thanks for responding! Ive read some of your posts and no doubt you know what your talking about. If you will. Could you please just give me a basic outline with product recommendation. Starting with the wash, following trough to Opticoat and wax. thanks!

One more thing. I keep my truck outside year round.

It really boils down to how long you want to spend doing this. The correct way to apply Opticoat is to decon (FK or Valugard), clay (Mothers), polish(HD), IPA then apply Opticoat. You could probably get by with doing a wash (Megs Gold), clay, polish, IPA and then apply Opticoat.

Do you have a DA buffer?

If all the above seems too much, just wash clay and use something like DG105. A paint sealant will keep things nice for a good while, DG105 or the Collinites should last at least 5-6 months.

Dan, Im willing to put work in on this! I have a 10" orbital from pepboys.

So I get the Valugaurd anti corrosion - Mothers clay (what color?) - whats HD Polish and IPA then Opticoat. Do I wax after Opticoat? I know theres wax's and sealers that are most beneficial to darker colors.
