hey everyone. I've gotten swept up into the hype of m105/205 so I'm going to go ahead and order tonight. I will probably try the KBM when the paper is released as well. I will be practicing on two 2000 Ford Suv's with some very neglected paint before I move on to the medium swirl damage in my black 2007 Acura.

taking into consideration the vehicles I will be working on, which pads should I get for my PC 7424?

4-5" pads. Stock up on orange and white if your going with the lc line. Get a few black also. I use orange and white the most though.

If you can, try and get the regular flat pads as these work best with the KB method.

I just now started thinking that the PC I have may not be the 7424 because it's not the 4" one. regardless of the number, it's set up for 6" pad and counterweight. should I buy 6" pads, or do the 4-5" pads work betterwith KBM (meaning I would have to buy a new backing plate and counterweight)?

You can buy different size backing plates. Buy a smaller (3.5") backing plate so you can use 4"inch pads.

KB suggests using the Meg soft buff pads. Most on here use the LC orange pads. But let me throw a twist in here. When using the KB method I have found that the Sonus yellow pad works the best. Buy a couple of yellow and white Sonus pads in both sizes and you will be very happy.

I have those sonus ones. I haven't touched them though since they're too big.

Are you talking about the spot buffs or did you get equal results with the 6" ones?

The 6" counterweight works OK with all sizes of pads, I use it with 4" on mine.

The counterweight was designed for use with a backing plate holding a single sheet of sandpaper. A foam pad of any size, wet with product, is a whole different ballgame anyhow.

Remember that the PC in question was designed to be used as a finishing sander, it just got adapted for use as a detailing polisher.

I tend to use the yellow and black Meg's soft pads when using 105/205 and they seem to work very well for me in that regards.. I did try it out with some CCS pads as well and didn't really notice much of a difference. Right now my huckleberry has been using 105 with my Makita at 1200-1500 rpms and wool finishing pad for serious correction. Followed by the yellow foam pad at 800 rpms to bring up a nice gloss before I switch over to 205 at 600 rpms on the black flat pad.

I've been thinking of trying that progression with the Flex 3401.

FWIW: I used the 3.5" backing plate and flat 4" foam pads (yellow with M105, green with 1ZPP) from Top of the Line on my 06 Ford F250.

Those appear to be Cyclo brand pads. They're good IME and they last a long time.

The yellow ones can lose cut with use though, or at leat they did back when I used them regularly (which was a while ago, maybe they've changed).
