Which pad for these products?

Hey all,

Recently picked up the 7336 from Lowes and have a question about pad selection.

Since I intend to use the PC mainly for application of cleaners and polishes, I was wondering which pad I should use with which product.

Right now the abrasive/cleaning products that I have are Mother's PowerPolish, Zaino PC, and Werkstatt Prime.

I was just curious which product is best suited for use with an orange pad and which might be best used with a white pad? I'm just wanting to make sure that I have at least a couple of pads to use with each product exclusively to avoid cross contamination of the products.

Thanks for your help!

Just a little more info...

I had originally though to just purchase orange pads to go with everything, but was afraid that if I happened to induce any swirls that I might need a white pad to go with it.

Is it possible to just go with orange pads or is it smart to pick up some white pads too to work out any fine swirling?

And if I'm completely on the wrong track, and asking the wrong questions, please set me straight.

Thanks!

OK first thing pad color does not describe what kind of pad it is.

second we have no idea what you are working on or the shape the car in in.

I would get a cutting pad, a few polishing pads, a a few finishing pads

I think this is a good start

good luck!

I'm assuming that by an orange pad you mean a light cut/polish pad, and with white you mean a polish pad. If that is the case then, yes, it is very smart to pick up some white (polish) pads also. I would start with the polish pads and then move to the orange only if needed. Note that an orange pad can induce marring that you might need to follow-up with a polish pad to remove.

A good rule-of-thumb is to start out with the least aggressive polish/pad combo and then step up only if needed.

I would also get some finish pads, but that's because I like to apply a lot of glaze and LSPs by machine.

Like BigJimZ28 mentioned, w/o knowing the condition of your paint and what you want to correct it is hard to reccommend a product/pad to use.

Sorry. From what I could tell with Lake Country and Edge, they seemed to be similar in that Yellow pads were quite aggressive, Orange to a less degree and white pads to a lesser degree than that.

Specifically, I was looking at the little 5.5" Lake Country set that included 2 orange pads and 2 white pads.

Neither the 328i nor the Grand Caravan have any major paint defects. I'm just looking for the right pad to go with some of the products that I already own which will help provide a good surface cleaning.

Would the white Lake Country pad be sufficient for this or would I need some orange Lake Country pads as well?

Thanks for your replies. I can't wait to complete my first PC detail jobs.

Thanks Eliot Ness,

Looks like you replied before I kicked out my reply to BigJimZ28. I think we're about on the same page.

Perhaps mainly just some white LC pads to clean the surface and an orange LC pad or two for the occassional surface scratch.

I may eventually move to get some blue finishing pads, but for now I just use sealants that are easy enough to apply by hand. Although if I end up using Collinite on the Grand Caravan, I may grab a blue pad since it's such a big job.

I appreciate the information!
