The white pad is fine. It's the "general use" pad and is good for most everything except for serious polishing (yellow) and fine buffing (dark grey).
I use the white pad/PPCL combo and love it. Like several Autopians, I start on setting 3-4 and use some pressure at the beginning, then I lighten up the pressure so only the weight of the machine is pressing down and I crank up to seting 5-6 for buff out. You know you're done with the section when there is virtually no product left to buff; it's all been worked into the paint. A quick wipe with a MF and on to the next section or panel.
