Which one do think looks best?

I am thinking of buying an Audi A3, but need some opinions of what you guys think. I am undecided between a white A3 or black A3.

What I like about this particular Audi is the front grill, the rest of the car is a little boring.

So what do you guys think, which one would you buy?

Both look great.

Personally, I'm partial to white. But that's just me.

Black, well maintained, clean and swirl free always looks awesome.

Dirty and/or swirled out, black always looks like crap.

How much work are you ready for?

pc.

I also have a black g35, that bugs my wife, because I am out in the garage every other week working on the paint. There's nothing like a perfected black car.

So I don't mind the work, cleaning up a black or keeping it perfect is a reward in itself. In person somehow the white didn't really do it for me, but then again the dealer said it was a loaner that needed cleaning up. In pictures the white looked great, so I just don't know.

never met anyone considering buying a car just because of front grill, if rest of car is boring to you, why not consider something else? personally, id go with white

I know what you're saying. Its going to replace our '97 Explorer and I need something to take the dog around and sometime luggage on long trips.

This is a high mpg vehicle and my main use will be comuting.

Its not completely boring, and whatever is will be offset by the great gas or should I say diesel mileage.

I would prefer a black Audi. Well my friend got a white Audi but its really troublesome to keep the car clean because of its colour and he really hates it now. I would suggest a BLACK AUDI! :)

In my personal opinion, its the opposite. Some people disagree, but black shows even basic dirt much more than white. For instance, look at a 15 yard distance at a black and white car with the same amount of dirt, and the black would look dirtier. Swirls and defects can also be 'seen' easier on darker colors IMO.

Black on the other hand has much more depth, and if taken care of, looks really good :)

i say go for the partial oreo cookie look and go white. Having 2 black cars will be like a second or third full time job and i don't think the wife would like that.

Besides you will thank yourself later that you went white.

Audi's grills (material wise) are crap. They tend to get faded and chalky after a while. It's almost like they need to be removed and painted or something.

It just depends on how much maintenance you want to do. Black needs constant attention to polishing and waxing, and white needs constant attention to keep all the cracks and crevices clean. I personally don't care what color it is, as long as it's black.

If a vehicle looks OK in white, I'd choose that just because of the whole upkeep issue. I find white a breeze to maintain...just keep it washed and LSPed. Easiest color ever IME, even easier than silver in part because even *I* don't think white needs to be marring-free (to the same extent) to look OK.

I think it's hard to adapt a "just have fun driving the wheels off it!" attitude towards black. More likely to be a "just detail it all the time" experience instead.

And unless you can keep your vehicle basically marring-free (i.e, polishing the whole thing once a year at most), I'd avoid black anyhow. While spotless, marring-free black looks swell, most black vehicles don't stay that way day-in day-out by a long shot. And IMO that's understandable, especially if you have better things to do than detail your car all the time.

And remember that Audi clear isn't the easiest stuff to correct.

Is this something new? I've never noticed anything like that on our Audis, but then a) they're older and b) their grilles are always pretty well maintained.

bcgree- BTW, have you actually driven an A3? I ask because I always thought I'd like one, but when my dealer gave me on as a loaner it didn't work out that way by a long shot.

White even though you are on a detailing site. I see too many black cars around anymore. Seems like white always catches my eye when I am out-n-bout

I'd go with white. It just beams so nicely. And, I'd go A4 over A3. Sorry, but I dislike FWD (and the car is an Audi, Quattro is their gimmick). Or I'd save a little money and dub it with the 2.0T FSI.

It was voted the green car of the year, if that makes any difference, it didn't with us. Its a diesel so it is new to the A3 line.

Well, I had the dealer line up a black and white A3, and by a slim margine we went with the white A3 TDI. We really like how smooth and quiet the car was, as well as the comfortable seats. We liked the VW TDI Sportswagen, but we felt the seats and the grille looked better in the A3. Plus the VW was a little too conservative.

I have a black Infiniti G35 since '04 and don't mind every couple of days dusting it off. It is truly a full maintenance car, as far as keeping it looking cherry, but thats the pay off, its looks like a brand new car. My wife drives it everyday and it sits out during the day, so I really haveto keep after it. I gauge polishing, by the area. If a certain spot or area has some surface scratches or marring, I will polish it out. So I have only done one whole car polish, once, when we bought the car.

Probably will sell the car or it may get totalled just before I polish down to the primer.

With white, I feel I could loose the edge I have in regards to the products to use on a vehicle. White is just so low maintenance, whereas black keeps you fresh and it comes naturally of what to do.

bcgreen- OK, sounds like you've put a lot of good thought into this :xyxthumbs

Would like to know what one you will decide on. I forgot to mention that the VW was cheaper, but I am a sucker for looks.

I forgot to mention that the dealer oughta be a consideration too. We drive Audis as much because of our dealer as the cars themselves (and the dealer we patronize is over an hour away, good thing they pick 'em up at the house). Zero complaints, absolute satisfaction. We originally quit driving Benzes because of the local MB dealers.
