the two cars I will be detailing are in very good shape, minor hard water etching, very little swirling.

am going to be using washing claying and then applying:

1)FPII

2)FTG (final touch glaze)

3)FMJ

Which of these 6" LC pads will I use?

I will also have an orange concaved LC cutting pad.

lastly, will a 6" backing plate be ideal with these pads on my PC7336?

thanks guys!!

FPII - white polishing pad majority of time, black/grey finishing if you want less cut. might be able to get away with orange, but on a darker color, i'd finish with white or black.

FTG - black/grey finishing pad

FMJ - finishing pad again, or by hand

thanks Justin-

sounds like the orange pad may be too abrasive considering the paint is still in decent condition?

dont want to short cut it, dont mind a little extra work for better results.

dont know how difficult it will be to get the water spots out

(has sat in the rain/in the sprinklers for months)

didnt think the white pads were good for cutting....

appreciate your help!

:thumbs up:

I've never used an orange pad with FPII, so I'm not positive how well it will finish. But you can always try FPII with an orange pad, and if the pad leaves any marring behind, you can follow up with FPII and a black or white pad.

The white pad doesn't do a lot of cuttting, but it's still helps the polishing it a bit. FPII can remove minor swirling and finishes to a high gloss. I sometimes use a black pad when I care less about swirl removal and just want to burnish the paint.

cool...

so you guys figure FPII with a white will buff out water spots?

the more i think about it, the more i wish i hadnt said the paints in 'very good condition'

if this will squash the water marks then im good :)
