Which Mobile Detailing VAN?

Hey all mobile detailers!

I have my financing and will be putting together a nice detail van by the end of the month. I have everything lined up, but am wondering which van is the best for the money.

The big 3 around here are:

Ford Cargo

Chevy Astro Cargo

GMC Savana Cargo

Is there a name you trust?

I will have a 90 gal. tank, pw, generator, air compressor, 2 canopies, extractor, vacuuboom system, bins for chemicals and tools, etc. I want to make sure there is enough room to comfortably move things in and out.

Thanks for your advice!

Well I know from experience that the Chevy Astro Cargo is HUGE!!!! Its nicer than the ford because there aren't as long of over hangs over the rear wheels, thus making it more stable.

I'm not sure which one is larger, but I believe that The CHEVY AND GMC are the same breed.

Dodge Sprint! Hehehe.

Actually, we had a 2000 Astro AWD. It was a bit of a beast but ran well. Didn't have it long enough to tell. I drove it to school because of gas prices and such (we got, at best around town, 17mpg). I used to pull people out of the snow in the back lot because it was mud, and never plowed. It was fun pulling out a 4x4 wrangler in a minivan.

I would seriously look into one of the diesel dodges (made by Mercedes).

I'm with Corey on this one if you're going to dish out the cash go for the Dodge Sprint aka Mercedes. A couple of people I work with upgraded to them last year and they say they'll never go back to chevy or ford. It carry's a higher price but you get a ton more out of the truck. They have alot more usable space and being deisel is a big plus. Higher resale vaule too.

Price of regular gas here: 1.92 at the cheapest place in the Falls.

Price of diesel at the same place: 1.70 hmmm. I want a desiel now.

GMC STRECH VAN. It is big and still packed full!!

I would check out the Dodge Sprinter, due to the Business purchase which moves you to the front of the line for service. The Sprinter is tall and you would be able to stand up and walk around. Also, go to a chevy dealer, a ford dealer, and dodge dealer and drive each of these vans and see what is comfortable and has the space you need.

What kind of extractor, PW and generator do you have? What is a vacuuboom system?

Sounds like you have cool set-up. Once everything is installed post pics.

Heh, what about a Honda Odyssey? Seriously, you might want to consider it. It's about the same price of an Astro, but holds more inside and drives a lot more nicely.

He's looking for a full size van, but a minivan. I doubt a Odyssey would be able to keep up with the number of things he need to haul.

I'll gladly send photos when completed. I plan on having it all up and running the first week of June. I'll be off from teaching on the 11th, but hope to train two employees during the first two weeks. I have a marketing plan that should work since I'm the only containment guy in town where homes are currently over 900k (median price). What does that mean? Realtors are making very good money and driving nice cars and they work in large business parks. They can't drive around clients in dirty cars with so much competition for housing. I'll share more on my marketing plan later...especially if it works! :xyxthumbs

Thanks for the info on vans. The sprinter looks like the Caddy of vans! A bit more than I budgeted for. Probably going to get an extended van..Chevy Astro. With the extractor, canopies (2 10x10's), bins, and air compressor, I'll be lucky to fit it all in.

I detail at a GMC truck lot. The GMC Savana Cargo van is BIG I have driven many and they are a nice riding van and roomy. The GMC and Chevy's are all the same just different Grills and badges so Go test drive one of them and see what you like.
