Which complete line of polishes?

I currently only have 3M PI-III MG and I'd like to buy a complete line of polishes for my PC to be used on my black Mustang. There are also a couple other Mustang owners that saw my last detail and would like for me to do their cars soon. My paint is new, theirs isn't - so a comlete line of polishes will come in handy but I'd like them to excel primarily on my new black finish. I'm new to the PC so ease of use is important. Here's what I'm considering... what would you recommend?

1) PB's SSR's (SSR1, not sure which others 2, 2.5, 3?)

2) Finish out the 3M PI-III line to add to my MG

3) Sonus SFX line (I'm intrigued but can't determine a concise opinion yet... I'm NOT opposed to buying the pads allong with the polishes)

I'd also like a versatile "cleanser" to use when not needing an all out polish... one of those "maybe it has a slight abbrasive, maybe it doesn't" products like VM, SPC, etc... all this would be a base for the other products I have: Klasse Twins, 4* UPP, EX, Souveran... combos of those to be determined of course.

Thanks!

I just used the Advanced Swirl Remover and Swirl Remover from Pinnacle with my new PC for the first time. They were very user friendly. As fars a a Cleaner, AIO is great as well as Pinnacle's Paintwork Cleansing Lotion. as far as somthing local I have been useing the step 1 of the megs system ofr years, it like AIO is mainly a Chemical Cleaner

Try the Einszett 1z line as they are all top notch. Really hard to do much better and they are competitive price wise.

I've had great success (5 vehicles) using the Poorboy's SSR lineup & equally good results (2 vehicles) using Menzerna IP & FPII. Used both with a PC.

I used Pinnacle ASR & SR on my Dad's neglected black Mercury & the results were excellent but I followed-up with FPII to remove the remaining marring. Used these Pinnacle products with a rotary.

All excellent products.

T. Perinne- While it's always tempting (and fun!) to try other stuff, and much as I like the 1Z line (have all four non-bodyshop-safe polishes) and some others, I'd just keep it simple.

Get the PI-III RC (pn 05933). Between that and the MG you really will be pretty well set for marring removal.

For something even milder than the MG I'd go with Menzerna FP(II). If you don't really need an *abrasive* cleaner, I'd just use K AIO, which cleans as well as, or better than, anything else I've tried. And the super-fine abrasives in many paint cleaners that *do* contain them don't necessarily do much anyhow.

It's easy to get caught up in the "having a full line of products" mindset. I know, as I've "accumulated" ;) an incredible assortment of products (I can think of over 20 polishes on the shelf at present). Thing is, I keep finding myself just going to the two PI-III products almost all the time. I'll *very* rarely need something more/less aggressive; by using the right machine/pads/technique I can do almost anything with just those two products. And that fosters familiarity, which in turn leads to consistent results.

If you really find that you need something more/less aggressive than the two PI-III products, then I'd just get those (specific)additional products, and I'd be happy to suggest some faves. But I wouldn't build up a whole line of stuff unless you've simply been bitten by the "need to accumulate products bug", which I can certainly understand and sympathize with :D

Lol... Accumulator, I have this sense of peace after reading your response :) Getting bit by the "accumulating bug" I was starting to feel like B&B's "Cornholio" when Bevis is on his sugar rush :D

Since MG comes in such a big bottle, I have plenty left... I'll track down some RC locally and save on the $50+ I'd spend for another "complete line".

I see you mention in other threads using the 3M duo with a rotary? How do you think they work by PC? Excellent, just ok, so so?

[Beavis voice] Yah yah, MORE PRODUCTS!! MORE MORE... [/Beavis voice]

I always appreciate a good B&B reference :D "Settle *down*, Beavis" is something I find myself saying all the time.

I didn't mean to imply that I use the PI-III stuff primarily by rotary, in fact, I hardly *ever* get the rotary out. Those products work great by PC, Cyclo (my usual method), and even by hand.

Oh, and I saw your other post about the new 3M series 3000 stuff. Haven't tried it, but I was *far* less than impressed by how it worked for a bodyshop guy I know. But then he wasn't familiar with it and I dunno about his abilities anyhow

I'd be very interested in some of your favorite products that would be less aggressive than MG, something for maintenance before your sealant/wax.

Thanks.

:D

...And Swirl City is but a memory with that aresenal.

You are the man Accumulator.:bow When is the "Inventory Reduction Sale" taking place? Maybe a year end sale?:rofl

I whole heartedly agree with the limited products needed to get the desired results. A friend at a local shop primarily reconditions desirable used cars to very high standards among dealers. The shop does a lot of cars and for the most part they use PI-III RC and their own concocted glaze. The seal with Collinite or Optimum. Keep it simple and consistent.:xyxthumbs

T. Perinne: If you want something that is more gentle than MG (which, by Accumulator's description is on par with #80), you can try IZ Metallic, Megs #9 (which many on this board don't seem to like), or Menzerna FP(II). I've found that just using AIO with a PC does a great job of giving me a clean, smooth finish.

Based on Accumulator's suggestion, I'm going to order MG myself. Its available with no shipping costs for a reasonable price at the 3M site.

Actually, the marring is history because I've figured out how to wash/dry correctly :D But I probably spend as much time doing the "correct" washes as I would polishing out marring. Well, not really, since the Audis and the minivan have such hard clear.

This leads into T. Perinne's

As The Uncle said, stuff like Meg's #9, Menzerna FP, and 1Z MP should work fine. I especially like the "pro" version of MP in the 1-liter (round) can. Just a *little* more aggressive than the "consumer" (rectangular can, pink color product) MP and it also has less wax in it, which seems to work well with LSPs like 4* UPP. Very user-friendly stuff, no matter what the application method.

If you don't mind wax, the (regular) 1Z MP is good, mild stuff. I sorta like their Wax Polish Soft better, but it's hard to say why and either should work fine. I use these on the XJS, which has *very* soft lacquer that's been polished to death- I'm at the point where I have to pretty much live with the marring to preserve the original paint, so I've tried a fair number of very mild polishes.

I know the 1Z line is sorta out of favor around here due to their new distribution policy, but the products themselves sure are good. 1Z polishes, topped with 4* UPP, give my silver Audi a special look that I've never seen before (and I've had silver Audis for a very long time).

I like the above-mentioned 1Z products better than VM or P21S GEPC, but those products have their fans too.

I'm not trying to sidetrack this thread but I have a question, Do you know of an IZ supplier? I'm not out of MP yet but it won't be very long...Thanks

www.detailersparadise.com still has it in stock.

Personally, I'd go with Meguiars 80 series professional products, like DACP and #80. Good, consistant results and at around $25 or so a gallon, you will be set for quite some time.

I agree; 1Z Polishes are my favorite (by machine or hand), both for the look they produce and their ease of use.
