Which coating?

Hey Everyone! Winter is approaching and upon the recommendation of fellow autopians I'm looking into coatings for my night hawk black pearl honda which scratches if you even look at it the wrong way.

The car is a daily driver and is left outside in New England weather. I'm relatively new to detailing but have practiced polishing a few cars with a DA. I'm confident I can apply a coating as long as it's not notoriously hard to apply. Assuming I do a full polish before applying ... Which coating do you believe will fit my needs?

I've tried searching and see stuff like opti-coat but not sure if it's the same as optiseal. I also see G|Techniq C1 threads. I can't really tell if any of these are effective because of the long and multiple threads, so looking for opinions on what I should try.

opti seal and opti coat are two different products IIRC, in terms of Tech or opti, mmmmm the coat seems to get more play on these forums, but I think you might have to look around more...I kind of feel like it may turn out that both are more or less the same? but yea... either one should be fine...i mean if you don't want something as permanent, collinites always good =]

Yeah, I'm not sure but leaning more towards a coating. I polished my hood perfectly, no imperfections that I could see in sunlight or halogen gun, then sealed with BFWD. 2 weeks later ... 1 wash with a clean grout sponge and ONR and I had swirls in spots. I'm afraid collinite might be enough since this paint is so soft and I have to ONR because of no access to a hose.

well considering that you have a honda and no means of proper flushing...I don't think a grout sponge is what you should be using anyways...it'd be hard to tell you how to go about it--though I can definitely see why you're leaning towards the coatings lol

umm...i think it would break down to which you can actually get a hold of--afaik, they don't like to sell the product to non-professionals...but i think both provide scratch resistance(definitely not to be confused with scratch proof)

Hopefully this doesn't come out wrong, but are you sure you had the hood perfect? It's possible you filled in some imperfections and they just showed up when you washed... Just a thought.

If you're looking to actually increase the surface 'hardness' then afaik a coating is your only option. I have not used C1, I have used Opti-Coat and Aquartz. Were I to coat one of my cars I'd use OC.
