Where my hose at?!

ok so i have seen all kinds of discussions but i was wondering what kinds of hoses does everyone use? Just standard garden hoses? How are the coiled ones? Any suggestions?

I use the faucet from my bathtub to fill 1 gallon of wash water with Optimum No Rinse and another with 4 gallons of water to rinse the washmitts.

No hoses here.

plain garden hose cut to a nice workable length. Can be a PITA some time when it kinks or jams under the wheels as I'm dragging it around.

Rubber hoses are my favorite, hands down. Much easier to move around and rearrange... they just don't get kinked up like vinyl hoses do (even the non-kink vinyl hoses). They're a little heavier, but it's totally worth it, IMO. I'm not a fan of the coiled hoses... I want the hose to stay put when i let go.

this is the problem that i am having trying to get it to go all the way around the car. I ALWAYS snag it on the tires

I like the Goodyear rubber hoses, or the rubber hoses from sears. They last forever! And are very kink resistant.

^^ What he said! ^^

I'm a fan of the black rubber Craftsman hoses as well.

Almost impossible to kink, even under the edge of the tires.

I recently purchased a 50' coiled hose. It's OK but not as nice as the claims. You pretty much have to walk it back to the faucet. It doesn't snap back there as the ads claim. Also, they only come in a small diameter so at the end of the hose, your water pressure is pretty low. I'll go back to a good quality rubber hose the next time I need to buy one. Lately though, every garden hose I've purchased as been crap. I've returned one Goodyear hose in the past year and have another at home ready to throw away. Seems they last less than a year despite being advertised as life-time.

I picked up a Gilmour Flexogen hose a couple months ago - the thing is absolutely indestructable and also very flexible and easy to work with. Plus the fact that Gilmour pretty much replaces any problem hoses no questions asked on the lifetime warranty doesn't hurt at all.

The Gilmour Flexogen hose is my hose of choice too.

I have two Gilmour Flexogen hoses, one 50 ft and one 75 ft and have had them for the last 11 years. Two years ago I purposely left the hose out all Winter here in New England and while it did have water freeze in it- it never burst.

One of the Parents in my Wifes Daycare drove over the end of it and I contacted Gilmour about a replacement. After cutting off the hose ends and mailing them to Gilmour I received my new replacement hose about two weeks later. They are great hoses and do not kink and are easy to roll/unroll.

I also own the Craftsman all rubber hose that others seem to love but I am not a big fan. It is heavy and makes a mess of your hands when you unroll/roll it up.It is now used exclusively to fill my inground pool as well as the kiddies pool as it really does attract the heat of the Sun due to it being black.

craftsman 75 ft all black rubber hose is the best one i've used and i've gone through many that have burst due to the high pressure we have. it has a lifetime warranty as well...

Large diameter, not self-coiling. Currently using a pair of inherited ones from Griot's (so-so, disappointing for the price) and a pair of Swan brand industrial-type ones.

I guess the black rubber Craftsman...although it does oxidize in the sun and get your hands/clothes black unless you regularly clean it, is pretty much "UV stable". That's part of the problem it seems with the vinyl hoses is that they over time get less flexible (not to mention in the cold). What is the Flexogen made out of, and how is it in the sun and cold?

I have some Flexogens for lawn/garden use. Dunno what they're made out of (vague memory from last end-fitting repair: reinforced rubber with some outer skin material), but they last forever even if left outside and horribly abused.

I've replaced plenty of the end fittings (as I always seem to end up doing...) but the hoses themselves are fine after literally decades of abuse. At least as durable a my Craftsman ones; I've replaced the Craftsman ones under lifetime warranty but the Flexogens (which probably have the same) are still the same ones that my late father and I bought forever ago.

Zero criticisms of the Flexogesn, I just wanted something more "industrial looking" for this shop and wanted to be able to differentiate easily between my foamgun/rinse hoses (black = rinse, red = foamgun).

jermar- Hey, that looks good....and I like dealing with Gempler's anyhow. Wish they'd fix that typo though..."lays flat" indeed
