Where does it go???

We all know that claying can be used to strip wax or sometimes a sealant, if it's not too durable ;). But, when the wax is taken off, where does it go? does it create a film of wax in the clay bar? I've never noticed a difference in my clay except for the grit in it. How does the clay hold the wax in itself?

Thanks,

I guess when you think about it, the layer of wax we lay down isn't really that thick. After all, we buff off most of it. So it might be safe to say it's just a very, very thin layer. And every day that layer gets thinner and thinner. What's left of the wax must be either absorbed into the clay, or a larger portion of it comes off and is washed away by the QD or sudsy water used as the lubricant.

Anyway, that's my unoffical theory, and it's worth about what you paid for it ;)

Are you sure? That's what I've always heard was the better alternative to using Dawn dish soap to remove old wax.

Elliot Ness: that's kind of what i was thinking too, but wasn't quite sure about it.

i spot clay frequently for bugs and debris and have never noticed a decrease in slickness or beading :nixweiss

When I last clayed (2 wks ago) I removed some overspray that was under 2 coats of wax. While I can't say it took wax off the whole car, it had to at least remove what was on top of the overspray that came off.

hmm.. I just clayed my roof today and after checking out the clay some kind of residue was on it (it reminded me of eraser residue). Prior to claying I had 2 coats of #26 on it. Maybe it was the wax :nixweiss
