i would recomend the 3m trizact 1500 and 3000 discs. Sanding discs are exspensive , but there the best out there and will cut your sanding time down fast. Almost any local body shop supply will have these. or online i would checkout tcpglobal.com they have a lot of stuff also. Also you will want to pick up an interface pad. the interface pad is a foam pad that fits inbetween the disc and the backing plate. if you have any ?'s shoot me a pm or call me. i can shoot you in the right direction.

I've seen pads that appear to have the pad and paper as one. You can actually wring the water out of the pad/paper.

Trizact paper is great. But like barry said they tend to be on the pricey side and a lot of the suppliers (at least around here) want you to buy a whole pack (which can easily be over $100) rather than break up a pack and just sell you a couple of sheets.

I'm okay with the price. I'm just hoping too find 2000 and 4000 grit. And, I like the idea of the pad and paper combo. Also, our Mirka is 5.5". The 6" pads should be okay, yes??

yea got wax you should be fine. im not sure what type of d/a your using, but you wanna make sure it has a 3/32 drive for wet and dry sanding. most sanders with this drive are finishing sanders. i would do some research on your makita model before using it. when using the wrong d/a it can cause pigtails which can be a real bit_h to get out. D/a sanding is awesome but it will take practice. earlier you were talking about the discs with the padding on back. I think the company norton makes these. I never used them so I can't give you an answer , but I can tell you jake was right I spent 112.00 for my box of 1500 trizact and like 125 for the 3000 trizact, but if cost is not a option this is the best way. it will change your way of detailing forever!

Thanks Barry! The sander I picked up is a Mirka. Nice tool! Thanks for the link. I will pick up a few of the 4000 grit discs.

Got Wax, did you buy the Mirka sander at a Mirka dealer? If so, they should be able to get you #2000 and #4000 Abralon pads (which are awesome, by the way).

If they aren’t a dealer, I would think that if you called Mirka’s 800 number (800-843-3904) they’d be able to direct you to a local dealer.

If you don’t have a local dealer you can get 6" disks at Amazon.com (and you even get free shipping if you order 25 bucks worth).

Also note, if you buy Micro-Surface disks their grit sizing is non-standard. So be sure to look their comparison chart and to see which size is equivalent to what you want.

pc.

We got it from AB's Gloves and Abrasives. But, iwil contact Lirka for the disks. Thanks for the info and heads up!!!
