ok i just bought a '01 torch red vette used w/ 9,500 miles on it. the paint looks great to my untrained eye. basically i want to do a complete exterior detail from start to finish on it and get the best possible outcome that i can. what are the steps and type of products that i should go through? wash, claybar then wax? if you all could help guide me through some of the prep and wax/polish steps i would greatly appreciate it. Thanks- Ja:up

Typicaly you do it like this:

Interior

Engine

Wash

Clay

Polish

Seal

Wax

Wheels/Tires

That is the general order. You don't always have to do them all. There are missing ones of course. That is where the detailing comes in.

Autopia has that wonderful free guide up to chapter 9, which this will be updated shortly, so keep tuned in.

Also, a great site with products and tips etc is:

Classic Motoring

They have guides, tips etc you can go through.

I have a Red '03 Lexus SC430 and have been using Zaino with very impressive results! It's not a wax!

Most show cars have used Zaino in the past, and know that this is one great product line. A bit pricy, but worth it in my view.

I'm an old Liquid Glass user from long ago when I had my '69 L88 Vette. Sorry I had to let it go, excuse me while I hit myself! DOH!

Invest in a good polisher, say the Porter-Cable (PC) model and you can't go wrong!

Good luck, and let us all know how you're doing.

Deanski
