Where can I find out how hard a clear coat is?

It's all relative. The only way to determine "hardness" IMO is to talk to those who have polished many different paints. Hardness seems to be determined in relation to other paint jobs, and I don't know that there's anything comparable to a Moh's scale or something. Although that would be handy.

Most of the time I find Audi/BMW/Merc have hard paint while the Asians have soft paint. The domestic paint is odd. Sometimes it is very hard and sometimes it's soft (my personal experiences). Hope this helps Drew

Yeah that does.

Supposedly Nissan went to a hard cc, at least on '06 Z's. All I can say is it didn't stop the dealership from installing a spectacular amount of their trademark swirls. It really didn't seem too hard when buffing out with IP and FPII.
