When EC and a yellow pad is not enough

The last few vehicles I have detailed have been in horrible shape. The marring is very deep (RIDS) and I cannot get as much removed as I would like. I am using HTEC with a yellow LC pad via rotary at 1500-1900rpms and it still takes multiple passes to remove a decent amount of marring. The really deep stuff doesn't get touched. :angry

Is this something that a wool pad might help with or should I just accept the fact that some defects are way to deep to be safely removed? Too give you an idea of how trashed the paint is OHC (new formula) with a yellow doesn't do anything.

I have been looking into getting a wool pad to help with hard clears and trashed paint. I was wondering how much more aggressive a wool pad with say OP would be compared to EC with a yellow pad.

I also realize wetsanding is an option, but when it is almost the whole vehicle that needs correction, it just isn't possible (time wise).

Thoughts or advice?

Heh heh, that sounds *just* like the M3 I'm trying to bring back from the dead :D

In hindsight, I should've listened to my painter and wetsanded it. Mirka makes velcro-backed sanding disks you could put on a PC, they have some very fine grits too (e.g., 4000). Or I should have listened to his *other* advice and used a wool pad.

As it is, I'm going over each area many, many times with the H-T EC/yellow or orange. I figure I'm not taking off all that much clear or I'd have removed all the marring. But I'm also erring on the side of caution and leaving some of the deeper RIDS still in evidence; without a ETG I'm just not willing to keep going until I attain perfection (I don't even do that on vehicles with really thick clear).

IMO you oughta get some wool pads and some of the Presta compound that people keep raving about.

Thanks Accumulator! I have been very interested in the Presta products. Do you have any suggestions for what type/brand of wool pad to get? There are so many choices, especially with the foam hybrid pads I cannot figure out what to use.

Presta black wool and Presta Strata Ultra cutting creme followed by Presta green wool and Strata Ultra Cutting creme light will take out pretty much anything and get it ready for your finishing polish of choice. This probably cuts as much in one pass as 2 or 3 HTEC passes via LC yellow.

Thanks. I will give that a try.

Now I need to find a local place that carries Presta. Do you order online or get it local?

I tried looking on the website but it doesn't have any information for where to buy. I guess I'll just call some local places and see if they carry it.
