When did MB start using CeramiClear?

I might be polishing a MB 2001 CLK55 AMG soon.

In order to prepare my arsenal, I wondered when MB started using Ceramiclear. How hard was the C/C before Ceramiclear?

Any ideas? :nixweiss

I think the first models were in '03. IMHO, the MB CC is average in hardness from a polishing standpoint. If the car has been driven much, you'll probably find tons of chips-the old MB paint is horrible when it comes to chipping. My '02 looks like it's been sandblasted.

BTW, it is truly excellent paint! Very resistant to spider swirling. Too bad my customer has already knocked off the bottom of the front spoiler and dented the right front fender.

Thanks for the responses guys.

So the consensus seems to be that it began in '03 and was in full swing in '04.

Just for future reference, how do you tackle swirls on Ceramiclear? Are our *regular* polishes effective?

:rofl

Did he happen to mention how much extra it was to spray with Ceramiclear?

The earliest S Class I've done with CeramiClear was a 2004.

Probably so. From what I remember on the MB Boards, the higher models (CL, S, etc.) were the first to get it. They started with the 2004 models (which were available in 2003). It's now trickled down to even the lowly C Class.
