Wheels?Wheel brushes?

I just purchased a Nissan 350 Z.It has the 17" aluminum wheels.In the past,I have tried spray on wheel cleaners with horrible results.I brought the wrong cleaner,and it wound up messing up the wheels.
Can anyone tell me a good wheel cleaner to buy?What about brushes?I would like to keep the entire wheel clean,not just the front.The wheels are a pain trying to fit the wash mit all the way to the back of the wheel to clean the entire wheel.Thanks for the info.
 
I use a degreaser from Costco that works great for cleaning the tires and rims. I also have a rim cleaner from P&S car products for brake dust called brake buster, it works like a charm on the tough jobs.
I have three brushes that I like a lot. A rubber backed tire brush, rim brush that is long and thinner at the end and last a small rim brush that I bent in an "L" shape so that I can get be hide the spokes on the rims.

Here are some different ideas that I like to do:

Never try to clean a hot wheel.
Use Simple Green or some other AP Cleaner.
Use a nasty rag to wipe.
Dry.
Apply "wheel wax" - gets higher shine, keeps future brake dust from sticking, I love this stuff.
Clean every week, just use your hose and the dust should fall off - no scrubbing, no cleaner.
Cleaner will take off "wheel wax", so re-apply if you need to use a cleaning agent.

I do this and it makes my life easy. :cool:
 
What would be good to use for hubcaps? The Wheel Wax add does not specify what materials it is safe for, and sometimes my girlfriend's hubcaps (and mine on the one car) are hard to clean. Since my other car has wheels, I have been thinking about getting Wheel Wax. It wuold be nice if I could use it one everything.

I'm guessing your hubcaps might be silver plastic?
I would try it, it's just wax, it shouldn't harm anything and can only help.
 
You may want to try Griot's Garage Wheel Cleaner and there wheel scruber brushes. Works very well and is even endorsed by BBS wheels... I love thier stuff and detail all my customers cars with thier line of products exclusively.

Yeah..they're not cheap, but the products are great. I use them exclusively on my customers cars and have never had any disapointed customers. I guess they are well know around the big car shows, ie Pebbles Beach, Ferrari De Elegance which is good for me because I mostly cater to that demographic and can charge much more than the regular detail job...I start at $400 and up...can't charge that much using the cheap stuff
 
I use Eagle One A2Z, its absolutely amazing stuff. Coupled with a good wheel brush it can make quick work of ANY wheel, and I believe its rated safe for any wheel surface.

To give you an idea, I detailed a 2000 Corvette that had been driven cross country with NO car washes. The wheels were caked in brake dust, I got it all off (including the inside of the wheel) in 2 passes.
