Wheel Sealant Recommendation

Have set of HRE wheels inbound and want to seal them before they go on car (way easier). Thinking of using Opti-Coat but would like input. Thanks.

Opti-Coat 2.0 is my top choice. The other is HD Nitro Seal as listed here too but I have not personally tested it yet (soon will though)... I am VERY happy with Opti-Guard and Opti-Coat 2.0 and so are all of my customers. They rave about it every time they see me and their vehicles are proof that the stuff is top notch! One 20cc tube should do an entire car, glass and wheels.

I have Wolf's Rim Shield on my wheels. Clients are loving it as well. On my GMC truck wheels, I applied 2x of the Rim Shield a few months back. I have been using Megs Wheel Brightener straight and its not breaking down the Rim Shield. Beading is still insane.

If my new wheels for the BMW ever get here from Germany, they will too get 2x of Rim Shield.

Opticoat!

They will never be better prepped than when they are brand new.

+1.

I don't think OptiCoat really has any serious competition in this application.

Enjoy.

Great thing about Opticoat is that, unlike sealants, you can clean them with battery acid and it won't compromise the finish (slight exaggeration about the battery acid, but you know what I mean ;) ). Basically, you don't need to worry about the harshness of the cleaner used - although Opticoat releases brake-dust easily with just car shampoo.

I put the OptiCoat on my wheels right after delivery and can't imagine going any other route. You will not regret it!

Bryan, I don't think I've ever disagreed with you [and I'm not really doing so right now], but even 845 still worked great after being hit with WB. I believe WB targets specific contamination and therefor won't entirely degrade the protection. In the case that I use WB, I usually follow up with an APC to neutralize and [because I work on older crappy DD's] to remove tar, stains, rubber, grease, etc.

But if I were to not use OC I would be using Rim Shield based off of the positive reviews and reports I have seen [as not everyone needs a permanent coating].

So what should I use to speed up the testing? Jesse says his Decon gel wont degrade Rim Shield at all, so that is out too.

Heck if I know, haha. And I am on the waiting list as of a month ago to get some Decon Gel, looks like it won't be in until the 2nd or 3rd week of June :/

Honestly, I would try OPC or another APC. In my case, Megs D103 or something citrus based that would otherwise strip protection on paint that isn't targeting specifically iron/tar/wheels/etc

Opti-Coat/Guard. Only thing I know of that is permanent and unaffected by chemicals. My clients love it and I've had several referral jobs to just do wheels.

RaskyR1, I am assuming you are spraying Opti Coat with an airbrush on those wheels? If so, how does that application work compared to using the foam applicator? Does it even out nicely or do you go over it immediately with a microfiber?

I was thinking about doing the same thing but have not seen anyone mention it yet...

It works great once you get the gun dialed in. Usually I don't have to touch it at all. By spraying you should, in theory at least, get a thicker more even layer of coating. I just ordered a mini gun to try and do a whole car. Anthony Orosco has been spraying OG for quite a while now and he helped me with some questions a while back. Brandt (Superbee) has sprayed his whole car too. ;)

Opti-Coat it is, thanks all. Toying with spraying it on. As hobbyist makes no sense to buy all that stuff, yet I have never let that type of thinking stop me, lol. Thanks again.
