Wheel Refinishing

I have a customer who needs his curbed rims refinished and I thought i would try the NASA Technique

The issue I have, is that the lip is not painted but polished aluminum so I'm wondering if there is a specific paint for this after I bondo and sand. The picture of the wheel shows a brand new version and not the damage I'm speaking of.

The other issue is, the area around the center cap is slightly corroded which is white and rough. I'm wondering if I can remove this with the wheel buffing bobs (tips) that eastwood.com has in their catalog. Any suggestions are greatly appreciated.

contact wheels america. They charge around 120 a wheel. they pick it up and bring it back 2 days later. they also give you a warranty on the work.

The problem i have with repairing wheels is the liability. if the wheel goes bad and you did the repair, get ready for legal fees.

I will get you the #.

There is also another company called trans-wheel

You aren't going to be able to match the color since its polished aluminum. The reason the NASA technique works is because of the German silver color paint, not actually the process of polishing the wheel. IMO, let a wheel refinishing place do it. Check out Rimpro in the Boston area.

Talk to Chris and tell him Greg from DTM recommended you.

does anyone know of a good wheel refinishing shop in Chicago or chicago suburbs ???

I have 3 curbed rims on my m3 and wanted to also try the nasa technique except for they are also polished aluminum.

Here are pictures showing the corrosion. Keep in mind that I don't expect to make these wheels look like the new one in my original post but I would like to make some sort of improvement (especially if this becomes a new aspect of my business).

The new pictures show the corrosion around the center cap and the on the rim lip. The corrosion is raised in both cases which leads me to believe that I can polish this out. The corrosion on the lip is raised too leading me to believe that it has not been curbed but perhaps scratched slightly. Eastwood.com offers wheel smoothing and buffing kits. They come with buffing nibs for use in a drill.

Since I don't have a Dremel, I may try this.

What do you guys think? Anyone try this? Will this work?wheel buffing and smoothing kit
