Wheel cleaner, just cant decide...

Ive read all the old threads but still cant make up my mind...

I need a wheel cleaner thats available in the UK (need some quickly now before I order some proper stuff from the US).

Ive narrowed the choices down to

P21S gel cleaner - 1000ml bottle for £15.72 + £7 p&p (about $36 :shocked, prob cheaper to order from the US!)

Meguiars hot rims - 710ml spray for £6.99 ($11)

Autoglym clean wheels - 500ml spray for £5.99 ($9.50)

Are any of these particularly better or worse than the other?

Sounds like the Meguiar's is the best value. As long as it's not acid-based it should work well for you. Autoglym is a well-known product line in Ol Blighty so use that if you feel more comfortable with it.

That P21S price is a joke! It's nice stuff, but not that nice.

I use autoglym but water it down half and half so its not so strong. Where did you find the P21s Nick??? i auto???

Nick,

In my experience, P21S Wheel Cleaner is consistently the best. Others may cost less and be easier to find, but if you want the best get the P21S and never look back. It's super easy to order at any online store, such as www.autosupermart.com.

Cheers!

You might consider the Meguiar's Pro cleaner instead of their Hot Rims. I think it's # 36? It is much more gentle than the Hot Rims stuff. The Pro product is non-acidic and is meant to be used to clean the rim with a sponge or something. The Hot Rims is strong enough to be a spray on/hose off product, which in my opinion is too strong for regular use. I really like the #36 better than Hot Rims.

The P21S wheel cleaner contains no acids or lyes.

Directions:

-Spray P21S on cool wheels.

-No need to wait (but I usually give it 60 seconds)

-Spray off with cool water

-Use included sponge to clear off brake dust as necessary

For heavily soiled wheels, use P21S Gel.

With ANY wheel cleaner, make sure to wait about 20-30 minutes after driving before applying. The reason is that the disc brakes are still hot immediately after driving, and any spray or cool water can severely damage your discs and wheels.

Cheers,

John

It's not super easy for him to order online; he's in England. Not too many etailers are willing to ship overseas. If you know of an etailer that sells P21S at a reasonable price ($36 is NOT reasonable for any wheel cleaner, I don't care how good it is) and will ship overseas, please post contact info so we can add it to a database of recommended suppliers for our Autopian friends around the world.

Thanks guys,

Yep ordering online is not a problem but shipping costs are very expensive and until I am doing a large order with some friends its not worth my while :nixweiss

I'm going to try the autoglym and post my thoughts on this later.

I'll prob try the meguiars #36 at a later date :xyxthumbs

Nick, I have PS21 and Eiman Fabrik wheel cleaner (also very good) and both are very good. I, though like to suggest another alternative that has worked great for me and other autopians: use klasse AIO (of for that fact any similar synthetic)!! AIO cleans AND protects the wheels (they should be cared like the car's body paint). The future cleaning will be sooo easy with water and a sponge (which you have to do with PS21 and most other good quality wheel cleaners anyways). The shine and protection is somthing you will love.;)

I think you'll like it. In addition to being non-acidic, it's also non-toxic and non-corrosive. So when it gets on your hands, or if the wind blows it in your face, it isn't bad (not that you want it in your face, though)... On your hands it feels as mild as car soap. I don't know it for a fact, but it feels like it is gentle enough not to strip the Klasse from my wheels. It's almost like car shampoo spray in a bottle, except it has more punch against wheel crud (from observation and feel. I don't know that it has any chemical similarity to car shampoo). I used to really like Hot Rims until I tried this stuff. I've also used EO A2Z, and #36 is just so much gentler. I really am glad I tried it.

Would you say that EO A2Z is comparable to Hot Rims? I have never used Hot Rims, I have had a huge supply of A2Z for quite a while, so I have never bought any Hot Rims...but that supply is running low.

Anyhow, I have always had good luck with A2Z. Plus you catch a nice little buzz with it! "me damage brain? Uh oh!?" -Homer Simpson.

The P21S from Iauto is very good, also the Autoglym is good and Rich is correct, water the stuff down. For normal brake dust use the Autoglym, if you have dirty wheels go for the P21S. Dont forget to protect the paint afterwards.

cheers guys,

The main problem I have is that the insides of the wheels get v caked up and normal cleaning cant get rid of this (i cant be bothered with removing 4 wheels every weekend!).

I think I am going to try using one of those foam head pan scrubber brushes with a handle. Hopefully using this and a combo of the autoglym wheel spray I can clear all the crud out of the inside wheel and make the calipers nice n shiny again :xyxthumbs

Get some P21S (Autoglym will also do the trick), clay and Autoglym Super Resin plus some Extra Gloss, that will make cleaner very easy in future and your wheels will sparkle

I saw you said I answered your question, but Hot Rims and A2Z seemed very similar to me. They can both be used on the same types of rims, and they both feel a bit caustic when I use a sponge (and that's watered down from the wet sponge!). Plus, I believe they both say they can be sprayed on and hosed off (although I've never found that to be true, usually the wheel will still have some tough spots). Between these two, the choice may come down to price, availability, or maybe brand preference. They are pretty similar. #36 is much gentler than both of these.

I just wash my wheels with shampoo now they are super resined and extra glossd inside and out. Dirt wont stick. Every time i wash the car i use that autoglym instant show shine on them. Can get a sponge through the spokes. Some times i jack it up and makes it easyier as the wheels can turn. I take the whhels of once a month in the summer or before a show, and whenever i gat the chance now the cold days are here.

Get the extra gloss on and forget the wheel cleaners !
