What's your favorite wash for a foam gun?

I'm looking into purchasing a foam gun and was wondering what wash formula you guys like to use with it?

Also, I read in another post and someone recommended to foam on a dry vehicle. Is that the best procedure?

If it is a first time, spring or fall detail, I use Chemical Guy's Citrus Wash & Gloss at a higher concentration to strip the layers of LSP. If it is just a maintenance wash, DP Xtreme Foam Formula Auto Shampoo. As far as wet or dry, depends on the degree to which it is soiled. If it's heavily soiled/bugged/tarred, I use a pre-soak, rinse, then foam. Otherwise, just go to town with the foam gun. Hope this helps!

As the others have said, DP Xtreme Foam works great. Lots of foam and slick to use as a washing shampoo. I believe I have heard others talk about Poorboys shampoo as well but don't quote me on that. I like to use the foam from DP to clay with after the vehicle is washed. Since it is so slick it works great as a lube for claying.

The way *I* use the foamgun, I prefer Griot's Car Wash, though I plan to try Optimum Shampoo (*NOT* ONR) based on Tom P.'s recommendation.. My technique is too involved to rehash again here/now...

Digging up the dead...

Any input on foam lance/gun fuel for a weekly wash?

Citrus Wash & Clear is a bit on the strong side for a regular wash for me. I dont get the "suds" I like at 1oz in the cup.

Perls - Great in the bucket. Foam gun - no good. Lance - ok.

Optimum - Only Opt product that I did not try yet.

Citrus Wash & Gloss - I love it, but I dont like that it leaves behind shine.

On a realy dirty car, I use my regular shampoo (from CG to Wolfgang to Pinnacle, etc) mixed with a very small dab of Citrus Wash & Gloss into the soap. Using a tiny amount would not strip too much wax, if at all. The other soap that is being mixed would simply neutralize the acidity of the Citrus Wash & Gloss shampoo.

The Citrus Was & Clear is extremely gentle compared to the Citrus Wash & Gloss, and it wouldn't strip any more wax than the other shampoos.

For a foam gun, I like to use the dirt cheap Meguiar's Deep Crystal. Because at under $2 for two-quarts, I could dump ALOT into the canister to create an ultra rich foam that sticks to vertical surfaces and breaks away grime. Using a crapload of cheap Megs DC Wash in the foam lance gives much better results than using a small amount of expensive soap designed for foaming.

Noting for the umpteenth time that the way I use the foamgun is different from how many people use it....

The Griot's is very gentle on my LSPs, practically zero stripping effect on KSG for instance.

Well, then I might not like it after all  I don't *want* really thick, foamy output.

Eh....just noticed a weird typo in that post of mine you quoted...

I'm just looking to avoid spending $200 on testing soaps. I just ordered Optimum Car Wash, the new CG Citrus, and DP Foam today, so I'm nearly there with all of the stuff I already have.

If something is foamy that doesnt rapidly eat away at the LSP, I want it. ONR washes work great, but are a bit boring.

For some reason, covering the car with shaving cream is entertaining to me.

Heh heh...it'll be interesting to hear how you like getting all foamy.

That type of foamgun approach didn't work all that great for me, but hey...that's just me and I can't get ONR to work its miracles just right either :o

I think it's great that you're gonna try something so different from what you're doing now. What're you planning to use for the wash media?

Well I use the foam lance now, but for stripping as its loaded with 2oz Citrus Wash and Clear / 1oz ONR / water. I've been using a sheepskin mitt as wash media for that.

I have a BHB from Autogeek that I use on regular washes when not doing an ONR wash. (my cars only) The BHB and tons of foam would be nice. Just need the right soap now. Tons of foam for the show, and a non-LSP killing cleaning ability.

I just received my foam cannon and haven't had a chance to use it yet, but I'm going to experiment with CW&C, CW&G, DP Extreme, Duragloss 902 and FK 118. Some combination is bound to work.

I use a foam lance with a PW.

2 oz of CGCW and 1 oz of Zaino Z7 and the rest of my 32oz bottle with water.

Only other that I have tried is duragloss and it was not as good as I expected.

The next time you order from Autogeek, consider adding Optimum's Car Care Sampler Kit. Along with 4 ounce samples of Optimum Car Wax, Optimum Tire Shine and Optimum Protectant Plus, it includes a 4 ounce sample of Optimum Car Wash all for less than $20. That way you can give it and some other Optimum products a try before committing to a larger amount.
