What's your all time biggest disapointment detailing purchase?

What detailing product that you have purchased in the past was the biggest let down? For me I would have to say CG WindowClean. Stuff streaked bad and did a horrible job imo. Anyone spend some big bucks on something only to want to throw it away?

Chemical Guys Diablo Gel. Bought a gallon of it before trying it out. Most expensive wheel soap I've ever bought IYAM. I don't even like it in my foaming sprayer. Sometimes it foams sometimes it slings out. I honestly think it's just overhyped car wash soap.

I actually liked that stuff a lot, but I used it more as a wheel shampoo than a gel to spray. Seems like a lot of CG products are making the list.

That is what I started doing as well. I just throw in a couple of ounces into my wheel wash bucket. I gotta use this stuff up some how lol.

I think a lot of CG is overhyped. Don't get me wrong they have some great stuff here and there. I enjoy some of their microfiber towels, All-Clean, Mr. Pink, and V07. But some stuff can definitely be hit or miss.

It's funny, there are too many to count but I actually like Chemical Guys Diablo because I know it is safe on carbon ceramic brakes and sensitive brake components. It also foams up really nice and is perfect for lightly soiled. It is cheaper than P21S Gel (which I would compare it to) and seems to fill the void I have between the color changing cleaners, like SONAX and 1Z, and the P21S Gel.

I agree a lot of CG stuff is all about the hype, and they offer 6 product that are the same other than color and scent. Many OTC products have made my list. Trying to think what else... Hmmm...

Oh yeah, DP Xtreme Foam, which is claimed to be made for foam guns. I thought it drastically underperformed. Still have most of it left. I think I'll use it for the wheels or something. Funny enough, it was replaced with Chemical Guys Honeydew Snow Foam - which I really like!

And the list goes on...

I know I am a minority on this but CG Glossworkz Glass Cleaner..always streaked.

I really enjoyed the smell but just seemed to not work with my glass cleaning process. I suspect technique is key and I figured I have plenty I like so stopped thinking about it.

Go with 1z windscreen, it's blows everything out of the water. If my steamer doesn't clean as well as I hope on glass that is my go to.

Not such a big deal but Megs GC Rich Leather Cleaner/Conditioner.
Did not like the look or feel. Thought it would be good for maintenance.
Two separate products a couple of times per year and maintain with Megs QID works much better for me.

I have plenty other choices (Sprayway, Mothers, Meg's). I loved the smell. It is the only product I poured down the drain to use the bottle for something else. It was not my biggest. It works for Mike and others but for some reason not for me.

Poorboys is a good equivalent -- great smell, cleans well, no streaks..and behaves like a detailer like CG did. That is, it seemed to leave a shine.

Funny you mentioned Poorboy's Glass Cleaner. I got a sample and loved it. Went to use it at a car show detail for some Saleen Club cars and it streaked on every car lol. I was using it with a cobra glass towel and I couldn't get the glass clear to save my life. Even swapped towels and still streaked. Swapped to ONR and glass came out clear as day?!? Still don't know what happened?

The moral is if you want an opinion about a product get a sample to decide for yourself.

I totally agree. The bad thing is I DID get a sample and loved it. So I bought a 32 oz on one of my orders. Then the next time I used it, it streaked. I plan on sticking with it and figuring it out though. I think it has benefits to it.

I was tragically disappointed in black fire finishing polish.... It's horrible I have to buy that stuff by the gallon and everytime I see one gallon get close to empty I'm very disappointed :(
