My friend has the Milwaukee 5460 Rotary and he'll let me use it. I need to know the size of the diamter shaft so i can buy the correct size flex backing plate. Most rotaries like the makita 9227 have the 5/8' diameter shaft. been goole searching it but to no success.

If you know about or own the Milwaukee 5460 rotary, do inform me of the daimeter shaft.

Thank Youuuuuuuuuuuu! :spot

Milwaukee calls it a 7"/9" polisher because those are the sizes of the pads that they sell. You can use it with whatever system will attach to the spindle.

Keep in mind that the Milwaukee is a mother of a tool. It's big, rugged, heavy and very powerful. It is not a tool to be taken lightly. Treat it with respect and you'll be rewarded. Treat it wrong and it will eat your paint. I would not normally advise a beginner to start out with a Milwaukee.

Since Autogeek sells the 7.5" LC pads I would assume that their plate works with them. What strikes me as odd is that, from the picture, it doesn't look like their plate has a centering hole (even though their pads do). It looks like they're intended to center in the depression in the back of the LC pads. I guess that's fine as long as you only use that exact size pad.

I prefer the Meguiar's backing plate which has a "knob" to center the pads or a Lake Country backing plate which has a hole to use a dowel for centering. You can use either with a wide variety of pads.

On the RPM dial on the Milwaukee 5460, it has #'s from 1 to 6. What rpm does each number represent (value)? Is there a chart anywhere for this.

IS the 1-6 dial of RPMS univeral for all rotaries???

Speed dial settings will be specific to the machine (on my Metabo 1-6 varies the speed from 500 to 2200 rpm). Since the 5460 is rated for a max speed of 1750 rpm that's about what the 6 means.

Perhaps a call to Milwaukee's customer service; 1-800-SAWDUST (729-3878) would help.
