Whats the deal with Plastic painted Bumpers?

SLOWRIDE "take it easy"
Hey Y'all.

I have a few Questions about why paint acts so different on this new painted plastic bumpers.
{I am old school bumpers are supposed ta be metal & chrome:lmfao}

I have a Customer with a '05 Quest the front bumper has bugs {for lack of a better word} melted into the paint & the rear has a some chips & sometimes it looks like its just wrinkled out of the way .

How common is it to have them stripped down & re painted?

Thanks for your time

My guess - paint can be likened to a hard candy shell. It's thin, flexes very little. Applied over a plastic bumper that's designed to give way (or flex), it can only go so far before it wrinkles, cracks or chips from a small, yet directed impact.

Car may have been repainted. It requires a special primer and paint designed to flex if someone painted it with regular paint it will not hold up.
That is what I miss on new vehicles, my Explorer and Ranger both have chrome bumpers front and rear plus chrome grill.

New cars are plastic everything and all of them look like a jelly bean.

Now that is being nice .

I think they all look like suppositories on wheels!:yikes:

Give me a Boat Tail Riviera Or a 55 Caddilac Coupe D Ville Any day they Got curves & bling that Beyonce' can only dream about.

I don't think the Quest was re sprayed the owners would have told me , Unless it was re done @ a dealership prior to their ownership {one owner}.

I dunno, All I do know is this is not the 1st time I have seen this "soft paint on plastic bumpers.

Its not very durable.

I have an 08 Dodge Ram Truck and if I don't stay on-top of polishing the chrome I believe it would be rusted off within 2 years.

Man those new trucks must be made out of tin foil I see them things dented & twisted all the time. they dont make them like they used too

Now this is a front bumper!

Negative currently a Small Block 400 .

I have a "target GM Crate motor" 'supposed to be a 350/350 HP

It has a bad throw out bearing so the SB400 is coming out soon & the Target motor is going in .

But it have to be cleaned up & pained & all that stuff .
Here's some pictures from when I built this truck a few years back I spent 4 month every day {that is was not raining} saving this truck from the bone yard.

Now I wish I had the resources to paint it.
