Whatever happened to....

Jared Pointer?

He was one of my favorite reads here. He always offered sound advice on products; did very informative comparisons and reviews, etc.

Has he been seen at other forums?

What about Black Bart? Perhaps he's been too busy keeping those black cars clean. Or, his back pain is keeping him away.

Poorboy's World? When I first arrived, this place was over 50% PB participation, now it's rarely mentioned and Steve hasn't posted in forever. Any clues?

Perhaps they are just busy or it could be that the changes this forum has made don't necessarily fit everyone's needs. These people you have mentioned are valued members of this forum and are of course welcome here anytime. I miss the members you mentioned also.

PB posts on other sites from what I've seen. I don't know why they don't post more often here. I though I saw a post from Black Bart not too long ago... Might have been from a search I did though

That's pretty simple. As noted, Detail City was the place you came to ask/talk about Poorboy's products. Even when he opened his own forum, it was dead and this was still the place to come, and was kind of regarded as the "Poorboy's forum". At the same time PBMG, was/is the biggest distributor of Poorboy's products.

So when your biggest distributor buys "your" forum and kicks you off of it...that's bound to leave a bad taste in your mouth...I mean, what are you going to do, curse out your largest distributor? Cut them off?

(Just so I'm not being misunderstood, Steve didn't get kicked off, they just ended sponsored forums here, so the Poorboy's forum was removed. The old threads are buried here somewhere.)

Yes and that sucks because Steve and Pockets are great guys. DC was favorable to PB products but that's not necessarily a bad thing. No different than Backfire and whatever else is being promoted now. There are so many Mods now it makes my head hurt.

I'm still around. I check in a coupl times a week, just don't really have a lot to say. The forum *to me* lost that small community feel, which was one of the main reasons I stated here. There was a reason I didn't post at the Autogeek forums or the Autopia everyone knows as Autopia forum. Not that there's anything wrong with growing and all. But I'm still around, and I do check in from time to time.

I would state it slightly differently. PBMG bought the forum and changed it to a non-sponsored forum. Therefore, for sponsors like Steve lost their rights to a special group for threads where they had moderator privileges so Steve could delete posts in his moderated section. Steve is still a member and can post on AF as I understand it.

I am not stating the handling of this changeover was right, done correctly, etc. but if I was a business man selling unique products I would want to continue to support my products proactively in a mainstream forum like AF since it would be good for business (revenue, relationships) especially if PBMG is his number 1 distributor.

I wish the ones that left due to the switch over would return but we know like we see this all the time.

Good to see you are still around. Hope you have been doing well. :bigups

I dunno...he was still at Detail Fest, it just seems he decided to concentrate on his own forum rather than this one, although he did do the chat night here.

Hello Jared, I don't know you but we share the same thoughts. I have only been detailing for 5 years. I used to visit the forums regularly to gain knowledge and share information. Now the forums seem to be all about bragging and money. I too have been staying away. Just wanted to share my thoughts. Happy detailing. James, your friend in the detaining business.

Let me put my .02 in having been a member of DC for many years. (close to ten) I wrote to JP to tell him this thread was here.

DC was a family of sorts, a place that talked more of processes than product specific. Steve at PB was one of the main sponsors but not limited to others joining as a sponsor. In retrospect it was Steve that was one of the parts that helped build DC to the site it was.

Since DC wasn't owned but a specific manufacture, it allowed an open forum to discuss any product on the market. The only thing they didn't allow was linking or trying to promote / selling of other sites. Perfectly understandable for those paying sponsors. If you wanted to promote then you could become a sponsor with no issue.

Much like JP, Black Bart and a few other ODC regulars. I think we could see the hand writing on the wall when AG took this site over. It has become a commercial venue for what products AG wants to promote. I don't see a lot of threads that are pertaining to processes or correction of a detail issue. I see more about product introduction than anything. That's not a bad thing, for those that are looking for new lines. I see lots of threads on details of exotic cars or vintage cars / trucks, etc. Huge write up's tons of pics, but how does this apply to the guy who is looking for the correction of a juice box stain on his mini can, or removing tar from a DD? That's what DC was about! :D

For me like JP, I still have a look at what's going on here, but day in and out I find it less interesting with every view, so I chose to invest less effort than I once did.
I'll step off the soap box now:D

Poorboy's World is still here and supporting Autopia (PBMG) ... the site has changed direction since the name change. Pockets is here everyday. I am made aware of any threads that would need our attention.

Perhaps they are just busy or it could be that the changes this forum has made don't necessarily fit everyone's needs. These people you have mentioned are valued members of this forum and are of course welcome here anytime. I miss the members you mentioned also.

Yes, Gearhead is right ... I worked with Dwayne and Troy for a long time to keep Detail City viable. Yes, I spent a lot of time here doing it, but now you all have a full staff and a big company like PBMG to give this site the support it never had before.

I mostly post only on my own site when I have the time ... Pockets is here as well as many other sites, representing Poorboy's World .. this has been a very busy Spring and Summer and both of our time has been limited.

Just to make it clear one more time .. I and Poorboy's were not kicked off .. the forum has only one sponsor and we are not it! We have a very strong relationship with PBMG, much stronger than anyone here can even imagine.
Bob(Max) and I have a very close relationship outside the wax world and we encourage people to buy our products from PBMG as well as our other distributors around the world.

That's a pretty good understanding:rockon

yes, we are still around and if you come to SEMA you will probably see me exclusively in the PBMG booth ;)

Hope this helps clear the air :bigups

Steve,

I only mentioned PB because you were like a fixture here when I arrived, always offering your help whether the poster was a customer or just inquiring.

There was no doubt that you'd be somewhere behind the scenes, taking care of your business and your customers.

I think you just said it best, Dave.

I can appreciate Todd's response to this thread. I hope no one feels belittled or inferior to some of the things posted. Being a member before the change over I understand the concerns.
The collector market can be very tough. You can be the flavor of the month. If a major collector chooses someone else it can be a 20-50 car loss.

Todd and others have stepped up the game. Understand that is out of necessity. When you are at the top there are many ready to undercut you to jump in.

I hope people understand that no mater what you work on or do your contribution is important.

When you get into collections you are introduced and referred accordingly based on your work.

I feel Todd and previous members have and will make this a go to site to step up your game.

I have never met him but have been given glowing responses from people who have. It says alot in my book. I truly feel he has the energy and drive to make this site a "go to" on detailing.
I myself miss the "regulars" and hope they return.
It does not matter to me what you post. Your work no matter what it is is important.
We all do the same thing just different vehicles and are here here as a group with the mindset to do the best.
