What would you use to make rough-cast aluminium look good?

When you detail an engine bay, what do use to make the rough-cast aluminium heads look good after cleaning them?

I was thinking applying some silicone based dressing may make it look a bit less matt. Would that cause any issues?

Has anyone found something more successful? :nixweiss

Just tried the CD2 engine detailer the other day. A bit too glossy for my tastes but, seems to dull down if you wipe it down a bit before it cures. It does hide the white chalkiness that cast aluminum gets. It is available just about everywhere here, maybe they just haven't run out of stock yet?????

Thanks for the CD2 suggestion. Bob, great looking engine bay...just the look I want. :up

Now...what is CD2? :D

I like to paint 'em (engine enamel) if I have the time/money/desire to do so (painted em on my mom/dads cars, I would paint them on any show detail, with the owners approval), otherwise they just get dressed with either dressing if I spray down the bay, or AIO if I'm being picky.
