What to use to clean a ragtop stang???

i have a question. my friend has a convertible mustang, and was wondering what he can use to clean the top and protect it. He says he thinks its polyester or something??? i have no clue, but you guys probalby know what i'm talking about with a newer gen. mustang ragtop and maybe give me a quick rundown on what to use and how to do it if there's some special process? thanks!

if there's any older threads on this, ya can post the link also. thanks :)

What year Mustang?

On a 1998 Mustang Convert, I use amazing roll off to clean and 303 aerospace to protect. I think this DavidB procdure from his book.

Both product are available from Classic Motoring, or from a boat supply store.

dont know and don't know. its a friend of a friend's actually, so i just know its a later model stang vert and its a fabric type material and not vinyl or whatever.

if it is not vinyl, then it must be treated like a fabric...if it's just light dirt, I would rinse (if there are no drought restrictions in his area) dry, and here's a trick i learned from a very rich porshe customer to use sticky lint rollers, they're cheap and you wouldn't believe how much dirt it picks up from the fabric. As far as a protectant for that type of top, tell him to check with ford as to what they consider a safe protectant for a fabric conv. top.

ps If detailing a well maintain expensive vehicle, I use the rollers on the carpet so none of the loops in the carpet get sucked up, it's one of the few ways I can get the lint too!

What do you mean so none of the loops in the carpet get sucked up?

I have found that sometimes a strong electric vacuums, like shopvacs, tend to pull at the carpet causing it to look frayed,

it doesn't happen all the time but if it is a well maintained luxury vehicle the sticky 3m lint rollers just pick up the light dirt and small pebbles and there is no need to drag out a vacuum and the cords....I still do use a vacuum for dirty carpets but sometimes if you are mobile ac is not always avail. and I use the lint roller as a back up. ...it also works well on velour seats.

I have done some research on convertible top cleaners for my all black 300ZX. Porsche sells a cleaner and protection. I bought both items and I am waiting for the drought restriction in NJ to be listed to give them a try.
