What to use on scratched CDs?

I've got one stubborn scratch (that sure doesn't look like much) on one of my cds that only interferes with my favorite song on the cd  I have tried AIO but that didn't work. I noticed Clearkote has a cd repair kit and was wondering what product they may use in that? I have most of the Clearkote products except for Moose Wax.

I am open to any suggestions. I have an array of products, but I"m not sure what type of product I should use on it. Thanks.

I think I read on an earlier thread that the CD repair fluid is just QuickShine. Not guaranteeing it, though.

I have used some of the plastic polishes...like Meguires....Plexus..Vanilla Moose works..

I think AIO is not abrasive enough to bring the plastic clear so the laser can read the info on the cd..might even try SSR1 that may work also..

Hope this helps...

I've used Meguiars Scratch-X on my rotary at 1,000 rpms w/a polishing pad....the CDs (and DVDs) come out looking AND playing like new.

Tyler, I've tried VM on my scratched CDs with good success. It not only removes some of the scratches but also fills others and leaves it nice and slick.

I wouldn't QD it...it'll remove some of the fillers that you need.

Paul, I didn't think about that. I will stay away from the QD. I also have Scratch-X so if VM doesn't work I'll try that.

Don, how do you hold the disc while hitting it with a rotary at 1000 RPM?

It ain't easy...one way is to lay the disc upside down on a soft surface, putting your finger in the hole...often the disc will spin on it's own a bit which helps the process.

I've had a couple of cd's like that. Interesting, they will play properly in my computer but not in my player. Try playing it with your computer, and if it plays properly, use your computer to burn a copy of the cd to use in your cd player.

My cd burner is broken :hairpull

I usually go at it with this process:

Wet sand (1500 grit)

SSR2.5 with orange pad spd. 6

OCP with green pad spd. 4.5

OCWx5 with 24hrs between layers

Then it works great. :xyxthumbs

I've never done this myself, but the first thing that I thought of was to use the stuff that you line the bottom of a toolbox drawer with. I would imagine that this would work perfectly...just lay it out on the desk and lay the cd/dvd label down on top of it. Another great use for this stuff (if there's any woodworkers out there) is to lay it down on your workbench when you are using a router. Set the piece of wood on the "mat" and go to town with the router...no clamps or anything are needed that way. :woot:

Not that I'm going to try this, nor am I recommending it, but why not just clamp down the rotary and hold the CD in your hands?

Wouldnt it be cheaper just to buy a new CD? ;) :D
